Hot, hot hot! today. Definitely summer weather. Too hot to go to the park even - all metal play equipment burning hot. Why one wouldn't think one was living in Ireland at all. We got the drudge chores of the day done early and then stayed home with all windows open and me alternating marking residue with insane quantities of laundry (some inner ( Read more... )

I agree about Dr Who. My sixteen-year-old was gripping a cushion for at least half of it - genuinely scared. And the Dr Who Confidential was great fun - all those memories. And the first time the Dead Ringers team have made me really laugh! That scene with all the Doctors watching and criticising was a delight.

For me the Real Doctor is a composite of Hartnell, Troughton, Baker and Davison. The others are pale imitations.

I don't know. For me the reaction is complex. My 'ur' Doctor is Tom Baker, very definitely and I never really bought into any of the later Doctors (partly due to emigrating to a no-BBC zone in 1981) but my first Doctor was Pertwee and he was a major influence on my response to drama when, trying to coax me out from behind the couch during 'Planet of the Spiders' my exasperated grandmother kept saying "he has to come back next week!" and then he died and not just died but lost. He was outfoxed, out-thought, tricked, trapped and eaten. He was the first good guy I ever saw who lost! So of all Dr Who images that one is probably still strongest in my mind. I can't re-watch the old Who though. I don't seem to have any patience with it. I must have lost something along the way ( ... )

It's been very warm here today too - 24C at my Mum's this afternoon. Lovely. Although give me a few degrees more and it will be too hot and I will have to lie down somewhere shady!

Hope you got your lie down. Being outdoors and cool in short sleeves is one of my key pleasures of summertime. That and strawberries that taste of something.

Well, apparently poor Keith in fact has tonsilitis, so I'm astounded he sang as smoothly as he did. I thought Lewis's "Kiss" number was surprisingly good, but it was mostly about the performance, not the song, in that. He had nothing on the other two for the big band song.

You would have curled up and died at the wait for the announcement as to who won. I counted. It was more than twenty seconds of horrible silence. I was going to be sick on their behalfs. Augh.

20 seconds!? I feel dizzy at the thought. That whole aspect of all these reality shows is getting insanely cruel.

I gather Lee won in the end - joys of Google. I can't say it wasn't fair but I would have loved to see Keith do it. Connie Fisher was saying all of the Maria girls are working so with luck someone far sighted will employ him. Tonsillitis though? Poor lad. should have slept with onions int he bedroom :) (Although imagine if this had happened earlier. That would have been interesting, with infection sweeping through the whole bunch of hopefuls. Every week would be Russian roulette. Here's hoping no eager beaver producer is reading this and planning to introduce it as an element for the next one.)

Summer seems to have arrived here, too. I ventured out this afternoon, and it was rather nasty. Blech.

That is a big difference between your part of the world and mine. Here summer is only uncomfortably hot by our wimpy standards. We don't need air conditioning in the house for example. I find extreme heat very depressing. Glad your have a cooler full of nice wine to tide you over. :)
