Could be worse ... so far

Well it surely looks like the chicken pox. However DD is still bouncing round the hosue like a crazy thing and demanding outings and stimulation. She seems a bit itchy but mostly unconsciously so and the lotion is helping. The closest thing to a symptom apart from the rash is her tendency to tire quickly. With luck she might have an easy time of it ( Read more... )

Condolences on the chicken pox. I've talked to other moms about this, and my own kids' illnesses bear this out, and the mother wisdom seems to be that the first kid in the house gets a light case, and the ones who come down with it later have an easier time of it. Since DD is still the only one past the cutting-the-umbilical stage, she may not get much more uncomfortable than she is already ( ... )

Thanks for the soothing words! Life would be easier if we knew more seasoned parents around these parts, as it is always good to hear from someone who has gone through these things before ... and survived! DD is doing very well so far. Not even that itchy. We are hoping hard that it is over soon and with minimum discomfort. Both Mr Wol and I remember a different story when we had it as kids, although we must have been a good deal older than DD is now.

Don't be too impressed with my Xmas head start. I got back to the house and realised that I had just bought a present for someone I had already bought a present for. I may be ahead of the game but it is obviously going to take me longer than the average to get it sorted out nonetheless.

I meant that the kids to get it later have a harder time, of course. And I think it is worse when they're older, so DD will be lucky to have it out of the way. The worst thing about the light cases is they still last so long and the poor kid gets cabin fever!

Good news, then. When I had the chicken pox, I was miserable, but my little brother didn't miss a step. He had a very easy time of it, so I hope that DD does as well.

Fingers duly crossed. I had a dreadful health history when I was a child (measles 3 times!) but so far DD does not seem to be taking after me. Long may it last!

I had a long talk with the doctor this morning and she reassured me that I had been tested for the Varicella immunity when I had my initial bloods done and as 'RISK!' was not written all over my documentation I had probably tested positive for antibodies.

Phew, that's good news at least. I hope the Phantom Itch stops soon!

Me too. I think i am raising welts. Of course I have the pregnant lady itch as well which helps not at all. What Myles's excuse is though ... well aside form the fact that the rest of the household can't stop scratching. It's more catching than yawning!
