In which I hate people

Aug 24, 2011 12:04

Here in the UK, there is a site called 'Preloved' in which people sell on their no-longer needed or wanted objects. This includes hamsters. And I know, I KNOW, I shouldn't look, but I always do and I get so, so, so mad. Some examples, because I need to rant:

We are selling my daughters 2 Russian Dwarf hamsters, they were only bought about 2 ( Read more... )

i get overly passionate about stuff, burton's accidental hamster rescue, why does this need saying?

AAARGH, THE RAGE, I HAS IT.

IT IS SO STUPID.

Like, I want hamsters badly, BUT couldn'T afford vet-costs right now. So I don't buy any because what would I do if they got sick?

Other people don't seem to have those kind of moral inhibitions.

ARGH ARGH ARGH.

What I hated most was that ad about the gift for the daughter that is obvs into reptiles. How do you buy your daughter a pet she doesn't want? THE MIND IT BOGGLES.

Many many people should not be allowed to have pets. I see so many people treating their dogs badly, too. It is sad and enraging.

It makes me SO ANGRY.

I'm sorry you can't afford the vet costs, they make such wonderful little pets. But you're right and you're absolutely doing the right thing. I have a bit of money put aside as an emergency vet fund which I don't touch, but I'm hoping I won't have to use it (again!) anytime soon. After I had to rush Langly to the vets a few months ago, I was explaining to a girl I work with and she said "You took it to the vet? How much did that cost?! It would have been cheaper just to buy another." I couldn't even respond I was so shocked. It makes me want to clutch Langly to my chest and never let her go even now.

Yeah. So, everytime the vet costs are more than the pet originally cost I should do what? Flush it down the toilet? PEOPLE.

Stupid.

WTF is wrong with people? We have never given away pets just because they cause issues or 'we got bored' with them. When I was a teen I had a hamster and was really upset when it died and I would love to get another one but I'm not too sure if I should as we have issues with our Boxer Max who sleeps in my room and I'm not too sure how he's cope with a hamster I'd worry he'd try to eat it :( When I was a kid we had an array of animals a cow Annabell, 2 potbelly pigs Kylie & Jason (can't you just tell it was the 80s ;) ) a ton of cats, a sheepdog Ben who we had from when I was 3 months until he died when I was 14. Boxers, chickens a rooster and peacocks (I was scared of the peacocks!!). We even had fish (Mulder, Scully, Langly, Frohike, Byres & CSM but for some reason CSM kept dying I think we had 3 of that name!!). I know for one thing I'd never get rid of a pet and I wouldn't just pick a pet for my child I'd want it to be something they want as well ( ... )

I think it's funny that you have a dog with the same name as you. :)

I don't understand people, I really don't. Fair enough if you aren't a pet person, I get that, they're bloody hard work. But to just use and abuse them? That's plain cruelty however you look at it.

Yes it gets somewhat confusing have both a person and a dog with the same name but we couldn't re-name him as he'd been called Sam long before we got him but he has been saddled with the nickname of sex......

Totally agree if you know your not a pet person don't bloody well get one as they are hard work even without them having their own isses like we have with Max, but sometime if you've never had a pet you don't know your not going to like them fair nuf but to of had one and then another then another it's bloody well cruel to those animals because they grow attached to you even if you don't to them. It's a sad sad world we live in where most people don't give two shits about animals :(

lol, I love this plan in theory but in practice I'm not sure where I'd actually PUT all the hamsters in the world? Answers on a postcard please, I'm open to suggestions. ;)

I feel this same way every time I see the adds for dogs around here. Owning two things capable of reproduction doesn't make you qualified to breed them.

Why do people feel like animals don't have any sort of feelings because they aren't human?

I think it must happen with all species of pets, sadly enough.

I don't know, I really don't. It's something I'll never be able to wrap my head around.

See, I'm not a pet person, but I am an animal lover and I get why you get angry about these sort of things!

And I'm glad you've made an effort to point it out! I don't know anything about hamsters, but it makes me angry that there are so many people out there who claim they do, but obviously don't.

I hate that some people are so spoiled about this, or think about it so lightly. This is living creatures we are speaking about, not just cars or sofas or barbie dolls that we can trade in or throw away when we've had enough of them or they don't work properly anymore...

EXACTLY. It is perfectly fine to not be a pet person, and to not know about these things, but it's not fine to treat living things like toys or tools to be disposed of at will. *sigh* i wish I could take all these little ones in, I really do, but the inn is full.
