As above. I saw the New Year in on top of a MOUNTAIN (a really steep hill, anyway) staring in amazement at the multitude of fireworks going off across Stockholm. Whut? How? All I said is about 10 dying...DID YOU NOT KNOW THAT? How could you not know that? It was announced over a year ago, the whole series has been building up to it, there has been interviews with 11 since he was announced 6 months ago...you really didn't know that? I can't believe anyone didn't know that, it's not a spoiler, it's been everywhere.

I knew there was going to be a new Doctor - I didn't know for certain that that meant David Tennant's character would *die*.

Granted I don't know all that much about Doctor Who, as I only watch the Christmas episodes, but I hadn't taken it for granted that every single doctor had to die to be replaced by a new one. Potentially I am just stupid.

Um, when the Doctor receives fatal injuries, he regenerates into a different version of himself. He's still the same Doctor with the same memories, but looks different and to a certain extent has a different personality. So yeah, for there to be a new Doctor, Ten (ie: The Tenth regeneration of the Doctor) had to die. Like Christopher Eccleston (Nine) died and regenerated into David Tennant. Sorry you didn't know that.

You should watch all of Dr Who. You'd enjoy. It's very clever and very witty too.
