Buddha's Palm

There's a great description of the Sino-Korean expression "부처님 손바닥 안에 있다" / "You are on Buddha's palm" going on at Amanda Takes Off that's well worth checking out. For background I'll tell you that it involves Sun Wukong (孫悟空; known as Monkey King in the West) from the tale 'Journey to the West' (西遊記) -- but to learn the rest you'll have to follow ( Read more... )

I have been looking for a (subtitled) version of Monkey King for almost a decade now.

I'll let you know if I come across one if you'll return the favor should you ever find a subtitled version of Dream of Red Mansions / Story of the Stone.

It has a bunch of different English names, but the original Chinese is 紅樓夢. If you ever get the time (ha!) the volumes are available online via Project Gutenberg here (Book 1) and here (Book 2). I'll warn you though that the books contain roughly 30 main characters and 447 named characters. There was a 36 episode series of the story uploaded to eMule a while back that I was able to snag, but without the subtitles.

By the way ... what version of Monkey King do you want? Someone on YouTube has a 156-video playlist with subtitles of the 1986 live action that starts here.

I'd love to visit either (both) Vancouver or the Rhône-Alpes! :(

The website here lets users download YouTube videos -- it's not the same as an .mp3 of the song, but it will let you download the video in either .mp4 or .flv (video) formats. Also, I'm not sure if the song from the BBC commercial is included, but it looks like the Gorillaz came out with a whole concept album / opera for Journey to the West. I am *cough* waiting for a download slot *cough* looking forward to checking it out soon.

Someone uploaded part of their Saiyuki game to YouTube as well ... that was pretty entertaining to see. Have you played the video game?
