Meat...
E and I have found a quality meat market, with real butchers. This could be dangerous-- in two trips we have probably spent $200 between us. But handmade polish sausage goes very well with homemade sauerkraut. And their braunschweiger-- well, it's just a full on sensory delight on the tongue. Changes...
Work has been plagued by rumors for the last few days-- it seems that our board of directors has been shopping us around for merger possibilities.
The last one I heard said an announcement is expected tomorrow. I'm not worried for myself at this point, but we live in interesting times.

Flooding
I'm more than a little bit freaked by the flooding I've seen today-- Oak Park got eight inches of rain last night. There's been no direct problems for us-- the nearest major street is named Ridgeland for a reason. But the nearby expressway was closed for most of the day, and there has been massive flooding and street closures in the nearby ( Read more... ) -
Cooking...
First if all, I am not a foodie.
HGTV does very little for me. I've never got into the celebrity chefs. When I was courting Fuzzyscribble, the height of my culinary achievements was a rather tasty grilled cheese sandwich, made with Velveeta, white bread, raw onions and bread and butter pickles.

Finished planting my raised bed in the community garden today. I have a tomato, a pepper, a mint plant, a basil plant, green onions, Swiss chard, beets and radishes, Japanese turnips, kohlrabi and lettuce.
Had a good, if tiring Memorial day weekend. A couple of days at Camp Dogwood, and a trip to Gaelic Park Irish Fest. The Fenians were back ( Read more... ) -
Busy, Busy

Two weeks ago, I spent most of the weekend helping ordinary move from Round Lake to Brookfield. I did not paticipate in the full 3 day extravaganza, which included a trip to Iowa and a double rainbow, because I had Sunday night tickets to see Public Image Limited at the house of blues.

Movies
Fuzzy and I have had a couple of busy nights watching movies lately. Last night, we watched "Man on Wire" and "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".
I'd wanted to watch Sky Captain pretty much since it came out, and I did enjoy it. It wasn't great-- characterization was weak, and there was much that was flat about the movie. But it was damn ( Read more... ) -

I got a page on my company cell phone last night, saying that there was an employee injury due to ignition of natural gas. I was immediately worried-I’ve worked here for almost eight years, and don’t remember that happening in that time period. As it turns out, it was someone I know.
