You're nineteen years old today. Regardless of this experiment, feel free to do whatever you wish.

I recall you had some schoolwork left to do.

Those of my world, with one exception, seem to have all been afflicted with the same experiment. A series of menus that show various statistics, as well as the items we have at our disposal, and the sudden appearance of whatever thoughts we are having above our heads in small bubbles.

Also, random music with no apparent source.

I see. This seems to be the most common effect.

Are you suffering from this as well?

Correct. The only one of us who isn't is a former subordinate of mine, who appears to have only her speech appear, in the form of blue-colored text.

... Furthermore, there appear to be some personality changes involved, but not random ones, though they may appear so at first glance. For example, my group appears to have been filled with the desire to come together in order to form what I can only assume to be an adventuring party.

It is as if... this is merely conjecture, but the personality and behavior alterations seem to be related to various genres of storytelling.

I understand your theory, and I agree with it. There are several who aren't behaving that way, such as you and I, yet there are others who wish to play whatever role they've been assigned. Do you a list of names who may be experiencing the latter?

Hey, Kratos! You can't see 'em now cuz you're not here, but I have these floating text options and a folder or somethin' for things and people I've seen. Don't laugh! I'm supposed to be a lawyer, or a defense attorney, I guess.

'You all right though?

A hedgehog... lawyer. I see. Can other people see these options of yours?

I'm well enough, I suppose.

Yeah, they can! They sorta flash when I pick an option, but no one else can touch 'em besides me. 'Seems to work that way for everyone else who has weird things floatin' around them too.

Good to hear! So far from what I've seen, it looks like no one's gotten hurt, which is a relief. No one has, have they?

Can you recall these options?

I haven't heard of any who are injured, yet there seem to be a few people who won't hesitate to change this.

Thank you. [This is a highly embarrassed Svala.]

I've gathered quite a list so far, but I know this isn't everyone.

Perhaps once the effects have worn off, those who are not aware of themselves will be more capable of explaining their situations clearly. I shall ask again once this has passed.

That is a wise idea.

How are you feeling?

An experiment, you say? That does seem troublesome.

You've not noticed the strange events occurring?

holysovereign March 25 2009, 21:45:00 UTC
Oh, I certainly have, dear. Though I did wonder what the root of it was, and the number of variations... I've never seen so many ordinary people acting quite so odd, but it's certainly intriguing to observe.

[Now he thinks she has Alzheimer's disease.]

How long have you lived here? I recall seeing you through several experiments.
