You are crazy... but in a very good way. Seriously, I contemplated adopting her and keeping her with me in my tiny apartment for the next twelve weeks until I can fly her to my parents in MI and give her a good home with them. I can't even afford to eat myself, but this is how badly I want a dog.
hmmm... well if Drew is really against it a trial run might be a good idea. Or see if you can bring him with when Milo goes to see them. Because obviously you do want Milo and Drew to be able to get along with the dog.
Though my immediate family has only had one dog at a time, I come from a big dog family. My next door neighbor back in MI rescues Airdales - and currently has four. Most of my friends/family have at least two dogs. And I've never heard any of them compain about having multiple dogs as long as the dogs and people get along.
I am home in the evenings with Drew a lot, except when I am in rehearsals. But I also am gone during work hours. I used to have someone to watch Milo in the evenings when I was at rehearsal so he wasn't so alone. Now I don't have that option. When I adopted Milo I told them he wouldn't be home alone for the entire time I was at work (which was true for a time) and that if no one could watch him I'd put him in day care, which I can't do - that's $40 a day. They said if I got him a pal they'd lighten those restrictions of alone time... I know he'd love it!
Yeah. I have a cat. Her name is Tobi. I used to work more normal hours and everything was fine. but over the years, i have started working more and more. At this point...i am leaving for work at arond 7am and not returning any earlier that 8pm. She's miserable i think. I have even thought about getting rid of her and giving her to someone that is home more...but i can't bring myself to do it. And I don't want another cat. lol
Aww I hope Tobi isn't miserable. I am sure she loves you and she may not be miserable. Hell - if she's not peeing in your bed you are probably ok!
But yeah - those are late hours. I leave around 9 and make sure I am home by 7 to at least let him out. But sometimes I have to run right back out again...
Dogs are descendants from wolves, which are pack animals. They need companionship: human, animal, whatever.
Something to think about, however:
-This meands DOUBLE the vet bills. If you can afford it, I'd go with pet insurance.
-This means that if you travel (which most actors dont...) you will need to board them or find pet sitters.
-I don't mean to pry as well, but if you have a serious relationship going on, you are literally bringing in another member into your family. Might want to hit up that lovely man you've been all moon-eyed about and get his permission first. It's not so much that you *need* it, but he will feel like he's part of your "family" and included as well, and will appreciate being thought of as a decision maker in a long-term commitment.
Yes, the vet bills scare the crap out of me for sure.
I seem to have pet sitters coming out of my ears, so I don't worry about that so much.
And oh yes, there will have to be a discussion with him and that may or may not go so well. Except that he loves Milo and loves our little family - he will I am sure be worried about my place being small and crowded...
pet insurance is well worth it if you are one of those people that takes their pet to the vet regularly and also if you would plan to have treatment and stuff if something like cancer happened. that shit is crazy expensive, but insurance is much cheaper in relative terms.
But if you are a person who would just opt to put your pet to sleep if something sever happened...then insurance isn't worth it.
I had pet insurance before and so when I got Milo I got it again and I felt like they covered nothing really. So it was kinda tough for me to justify the $40 a month. I have a care credit card that I will hopefully get paid down before I ever need to use it again.
My friend just had to give her cat a sex change because he had a stone in his urethra - it was crazy expensive. Now she has a girl kitty. Seriously.

I have one friend telling me that getting a second dog was the biggest mistake he ever made... Maybe they'll do a trial run...?
