It wasn't like him to go out to this place. There was nothing there for him. But Yuugi was there and that was all that mattered. It might have occurred to him at some point that Kagome was the reason he was out there, she might have even been there as well. All the more reason to go, in his opinion.

Yuugi was upset lately, and he couldn't blame his partner (he'd never blame his partner for anything anyway). Kagome was also upset, and very vocal about it. It didn't mix, and he wanted to make sure Yuugi was alright. He was always top priority.

But seeing him out there alone made him approach closer. Practicing archery on his own? Maybe it was a stress release? He seemed... a little bad at it, though.

It had been such a long time since....

"Having fun?"

The voice kind of startled him, but only because he was so focused on what he was doing (or trying to do) that he didn't even hear someone approaching! Still, despite the fact that the bow was probably too big and the arrows incorrectly held, he didn't look that embarrassed at being caught.

...well, okay, maybe a little bit.

"...kind of.." He replied, dropping the arrows back into the quiver on the side. "Kagome's been teaching me, so I figured I'd get some practice in before our next lesson."

The inconsistencies were immediately noted. It had been forever since he'd even fathomed picking up a bow and some arrows, but it was a skill that never died- apparently not even after three thousand years. Maybe because it was ingrained in him that if he didn't learn these things he could die. Being taught something like that probably left a mark on you.

Atem approached closer. "How many lessons have you two had?" He knew that Kagome was no professional, self taught- but on the battlefield it had sounded like (at least that's as much as he gathered from his talks with her).

"Only a couple." Let's say they had... two? I have no idea lol but anyway. "She's more or less been telling me the basics, but I don't want to forget anything.."

This would probably be easier if the string wasn't so hard to draw back with. Kind of hurt his arm when he tried, but then again.. he wasn't putting his whole heart into it, either. He was worried about Atem, Madotsuki, Kagome.. everyone ever.

"You know how to shoot an arrow?" An innocent question, mostly because he was still learning about Atem.

Hearing something from the Archery court, Yuuki decided a quick peek wouldn't hurt. There were always people around but after the nightmare incident...well...she wanted to be a more careful.

She had been hiding out in Jing's house during the entire fiasco and confined herself to a small dark closet. She had just gone out to make sure these nightmares weren't still around. Particularly, hers.

So when she rounded the corner, Artemis in hand, to find...who was tha--? Atem? No, he...he has a different scent. Ah, perhaps this is Yuugi. She looked to Artemis and quickly deactivated it's scythe form, causing it to collapse. She strapped the parts to her leg before continuing.

"Hello."

The voice caught him slightly by surprise, but then again he was rather distracted. Yuugi blinked a moment as he turned to look at her, smiling lightly as she approached. Huh, he didn't expect to be.. found out here. But regardless..

"Hello!" He dropped the arrows into the quiver, though his expression remained as pleasant as it could. "Out for a walk?" Nervous attempt at making conversation, since he could never end a conversation just at a greeting.

'A walk'....sure, lets go with that.

"Yes. Are you an archer?" Her eyes went to the arrows as she stared for a few moments. She knew Kagome was an archer but she didn't know there were others as well.

Though that was her fault, she had become a bit antisocial since arriving on the island.

"No, I'm not." Yuugi admitted, hard to keep the sheepish tone from his voice. "I'm trying to learn, though."

Kagome stood off to the side and watched him. She noticed that it was going short and not straight. He was getting better but he was expecting to much from himself.

"Yuugi"

She called out as she walked up to him. She went to put a hand gently on his shoulder then pulled the boy in for a hug. She felt as though she was getting closer to the boy and she knew that she worried him with her action. She realized now how stupid it was but she didn't regret it. She felt as though she needed to do something, if anything to call Kia out and have the girl focus her on Kagome.

"I'm sorry Yuugi, I guess the nightmare and Madotsuki's death bothered me a lot more and I just wanted...to try something."

Hearing his name made him pause, and look up.. just in time to be hugged by Kagome. He blushed, and tensed a bit, mostly awkward at not being hugged so much. Well, sure, he was gradually getting used to it, but not expecting it always made it more awkward for him.

"....Try something?" He didn't mean to ask, it just kind of.. came out of his mouth. Plus, the way she made it sound, it was planned or something.

She held him to her for a few more minutes before letting him go. She smiled at him but tears can be seen in her eyes. She glanced off to the side as she closed her eyes for a second to breath.

"Well I just wanted Kia to understand how I felt. If I upset her enough, she might come directly after me. Besides, I'm not one to just stand aside and let things like this happen without speaking out against her."

Yuugi half returned the hug awkwardly, since he had the bow in one hand it was kind of hard to legitimately do one. When he was released, he stepped back and looked up at her, before gently smiling and setting a hand on her shoulder.

"I think she knows..." he said quietly. "But its not like you're alone."

[Now that's something he hadn't seen in a while. He used to watch Kikyou practice doing archery and Kagome too. Course, they were a lot better than this. Still, it caught his attention.]

Put more of your back into it.

[The voice makes him stop, and he pauses to look around for the source of it.]

My.... back?

Yeah.

[He walks over to the boy replaying how Kagome and Kikyou shot their arrows.]

Look like you're only using your arms.

[He looks over the boy to see his form.]

Put your back into the pull back and just let go.

[He wasn't an expert, but he knew a little from watching.]

[Yuugi looks up at him, trying not to.. stare at his ears. Plus, he's all of five feet, minus his hair.. and his scent probably goes with Atem's the same way Kagome's goes with Kikyou's.

Still though, he tries to mimic him as best as he could.]

So like this?

[He doesn't shoot off any more arrows yet, just trying to verify.]
