As soon as his voice had returned to him, Kaiba was out in the woods edging the park trying to catch up on his work. He had been planning to spend all night out there, shouting his voice hoarse if he had to, just to get back on schedule with fine tuning the Duel Disk voice commands. The Island wasn't going to dictate what he did and did not accomplish, if he had anything to say about it.

It was the light that caught his attention. As familiar as it was, Kaiba couldn't help but notice it. Still, as it could be the Mutt, or Yuugi, or possibly one of a multitude of people he had no interest in seeing, he approached carefully. At least until he caught a quick glimpse of what monster it was.

"I didn't think they let you out alone anymore," the brunet called, pausing at the edge of the trees, his Duel Disk lying dormant on his arm and his laptop safely secured in a case slung from his shoulder.

YOU SHOW THAT PAPER note_atem September 19 2010, 04:53:07 UTC
The card was immediately slid back onto the top of his deck. He might have been looking at its frame, instead of staring into the eyes of a long lost friend. Painted picture was much easier to deal with than real life hologram. The voice was easy to pick out, easy to know whom it belonged to.

He turned slightly, giving Kaiba a tired and distant look over. But still, he managed a smile. "I can still find time for myself when I need to." Miraculously or not. He did love his friends. He needed them around.

"It's good to hear you again." A soft, understated statement out of nowhere.

Brown eyebrows rose briefly, before Kaiba responded with a smirk. "And I expected you to think of it as a much needed reprieve," he remarked.

He looked the other man over, his eyes settling on the Duel Disk on his arm. "I can upload the new programming now, since you're here. It will only take a minute," he said, all business. "The voice commands seem to be working as they should."

YEAH VIOLENCE. note_atem September 19 2010, 05:02:41 UTC
His arm raised on instinct when the Duel Disk was brought into question, his own eyes glancing over Kaiba's own. Though he did nod, coming forward slowly enough, approaching the other man. The release button was pressed, though he did slide his deck out of the holder and back into his box.

"Here." Another soft murmur as he pulled the machine from his arm and held it up for Kaiba.

The name jerked him out of his thoughts. The card was removed from the plate quicker than he even realized he was moving; the hologram disappeared in a flash of light and he turned slightly. He wasn't expecting anyone else to be standing there. Still, seeing Yuugi was a slight surprise.

"Mm, Aibou?" He still wanted to talk to him. Maybe something was wrong. Did Yuugi need help?

Yuugi stepped back at the sudden movement, and as the 'monster' vanished quickly. He glanced to the space it was occupying just moments before, and then to his other self.

"Ahh.. sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you."

He smiled, though it was very weak. He certainly didn't want to make Yuugi feel unwelcome. That was never his intention. A shake of his head.

"You're not interrupting anything." Nothing that was important, anyway. It was better that he had. He couldn't take looking into those familiar eyes of the hologram. It was just more self torture.

Nill had been watching Atem, following him from a great distance. She was still a bit shy around him and she didn't want to rouse him from his thoughts; watching him was enough, to see how he acted by himself. This may be creepy for people to do, but Nill didn't really realize how odd it was because of how odd she was herself.

It was really amazing, how many things she learned by peeping on people, even if it was a bit of a nasty habit. Slowly, she almost crept up behind Atem and touched his arm softly, to let him know she was there.

Atem might have been more aware of his surroundings had he not been so in his head. He usually was. It didn't do well to leave yourself so vulnerable, especially not on this island. The touch shocked him because he hadn't been paying attention.

He jerked slightly, moving to face her- thinking maybe somebody was approaching with vicious intent. But upon seeing her he eased back a little, dropped his jitters. "Ah, hello, Nill." He hadn't seen her for a while he recalled.

"How are you?"

Nill jumped slightly at how abrupt he was when he turned to face her, but tried to shrug it off. She smiled up at him, mouthing the words "Good". As she studied his face, she realized his eyes were telling different stories than they had been when he first met her.

She pointed to him, tilting her head in question as he smile fell, becoming more of a pout.

He returned that smile when he understood what she was saying. Good was.. good. He hadn't seen her in a while, he'd actually thought maybe she'd been sent home. It was common. But it was nice to see that she'd been doing well on her own.

Though the point at him felt like she was accusing him of something. For a moment he was entertaining the idea of acting like he had no idea what she meant. But it passed. A shake of his head. "What? Nothing's wrong." He did know what she meant, but that didn't mean he had to answer it. "What about you? Where have you been? I haven't seen you around in a while." Changing the subject felt like a good thing to do.
