Good luck with the insurance. I pay renters insurance which is less than homeowners insurance, but the quote you were given doesn't seem out of the norm.

I find it really hard to get house insurance so I feel your pain. (I apparently live in a high risk area because of the oft-flooding river Severn, never mind the fact I live 8 miles away from said river and a good 100ft higher than the river so if the river floods my house I'll have been busy building an ark anyway.)
