Aaaaaages ago I had an ice lolly because I needed the stick. I promised to post the reason I needed the stick and at long blooming last I am doing so!
Coasters! I needed to get the grout (or plaster as it appears to be) between the tiles and had no trusty pack of lolly sticks for non-food purposes. Actually I still need to get some. Must remember that....
I chose and made the top one for me and I gave Dad the bottom one because a whale is the major part of the family crest (the googly eye is optional though). Joan promptly appropriated it for the bathroom to go with all her other bathroom fishes, which I agreed was a pretty good idea.
In house news, we've been told by the solicitor that many terraced houses were built with the drains going under the property and that everyone has some private pipe that they have to deal with. We've also worked out that the drains that suffered in the flood were not the drains that go under the houses but the highway and local government drains so we've gone 'ok, we'll live with that!'. Plus if there is a blockage problem, it's not likely to affect us as the house is only five houses from the end of the drain that drains into Thames Water main sewers and it's more likely to be the houses further up the chain that suffer. We're ignoring that three-way junction that is under the manhole cover in the back garden. If Dynorod have to come visit, we'll be perfectly happy to let them in - to the back garden at least. I'll go shopping until the stink recedes....
Now our only stumbling block is to get house insurance for less than £1000 per year. There are a couple of companies who haven't told us where to go and now we're just waiting to get some documents to send to them so we can get an accurately-assessed quote. Wish us luck.
In other news, this evening we have been to the other side of town (past the river and the canal) to deposit the second mouse that has been found under the landlord's sink - but that's a story for another day...
