"oh my God, wait and see, what will soon become of me? This frozen heart and screaming wheels, does that screaming come from me? I"m dizzy from all this spinning

Sounds familiar... cause I do that with every major decision I make in my life. I guess the bigger question is, what will you regret more long term? Not taking a chance at a job that might make you FAR more happy, or waiting another year or so for a garage.
Things always work out in the end. You are two very smart, loving supportive people, and I know you can make it work. And really, taking a night class or going to school part time to be able to go for a new job, small price to pay. And with a Masters in biology, you can do a lot, you have options. People with far less education than you, like not even high school diplomas get by and support families. I'm not saying you'll have to mop floors at McDonalds, I just know you'll be fine no matter what path you choose :)
It's ultimately your decision love, just don't let things that in the big scheme of things are truly not a priority get in the way.
I don't know how much a garage costs, so I can't help you there. But I can let you know that with this master's degree you would be limited to working (at the professional pay scale) only in school libraries. This is probably what you are after, so no biggie, but it is not an ALA certified degree. Therefore you would not necessarily be considered a professional librarian (and able to get that pay) outside of a K-12 setting. Although it would probably count towards higher pay than my certificate (which also takes 2 years, although cheaper classes). Good luck!
Job uncertainty is the worstohsweetnessDecember 2 2008, 21:11:36 UTC
I completely feel you. Every now and then I have to re-examine what my passion is and figure out if my career is it (I'm still confused).
If you like data, love libraries, i think that this would be great for you. It really is better to defer things that are more quickly gratifying (like a garage) for something that well make your life feel more gratifying (like having a job that you love).
I know that once you get the degree should you choose to - there is the uncertainty of not finding a job, but I believe that while taking the courses, if you take the time to volunteer to help out at the library or perhaps even the library information specialist or work part time at the library at the college it would look worlds better for your resume.
I know that your heart isn't in teaching right now. Do you really want to continue down that path? The unknown future is always scary but you're a smart girl and I know that if you choose to do this and you are passionate about it and have fun with it you will excel in it.
