Directions: EVERY DAY ANSWER ONE QUESTION AND POST A VIDEO OF THE SONG ON YOUR WALL. Label it as... Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc., then that day's question and the Artist and the Song title. HAVE FUN!! :D
Well, I'm rarely one to actually follow a meme's directions.
Looking over the original categories, I can't answer (or don't care) about half of them. So I think I'll go with a bit more free-form style of just picking 30-some-odd songs and writing up a bit about them.
I should say at the default that I have no particular musical tastes or knowledge. I listen to trashy pop most of the time. Still, I will make an attempt to pick reasonably good music.
Meme Masterpost Yesterday's post: More songs I'd rather not think about.... day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love -
I don't think I know what people's expectations of me are.
I do have a weakness for Eminem, though. Like, I know he's pretty much only got one mood-pissed off-and his lyrics tend to be excessively violent, offensive, homophobic, the whole nine yards, but...
Yeah. I find myself enjoying him being pissed off.

Dr. Dre feat. Eminem and Skylar Grey, “I Need a Doctor” So, I first heard this at
the Grammys, mixed together with Eminem's collaboration with Rihanna,
“Love The Way You Lie (Part II)”. In a rather melodramatic fashion, Eminem professes his highly macho and totally-not-gay adoration for Dr. Dre, and mourns the fact that he's apparently...I don't know, left the industry? I don't know what the story behind all this is, but I appreciate the rare show of bromance.
...aside from the fact that Dre later drops “faggots” into his lines as an epithet against the people he hates. Yeah. Real mature, sir. This song manages to exceed my expectations by offering a genuine sense of the relationship between these two guys, and then promptly returns to the same macho bullshit posturing.
Obviously, there are similar issues with
“Love the Way You Lie”. The entire song is essentially glorifying an abusive relationship in that creepily-romantic way that says “we love each other, even though we're self-destructive.” In the least, it seems to be a consensually abusive relationship - or at least one in which both partners are equally abusive (not that that justifies any of it), but, at the same time... I have to admit, I can understand why a person might stay in a relationship like that. I don't know the word. If Schadenfreude means taking pleasure in the pain of others, does that also include the oddly voyeuristic thrill you get from watching other people meltdown on camera? (Or, rather, on...CD, as the case may be.)
I probably don't need to justify the really popular songs, like
“Stan” or
“Lose Yourself" .
I mean, honestly, I don't know rap and hip-hop. Like, at all. I know the Billboard version of rap. I'm sure there are better and less offensive rappers out there, but I don't know them.
