I had to wait a day to read, so I could indulge myself uninterrupted, and I'm so glad I did. It's absolutely beautiful, thank you. I loved the salt crystals in the rock, oh, and “An eclipse of moths fluttered against the glass”, I could go on and on, because there were so many gorgeous images... Thank you again.

Thank you! (And for the AO3 kudos, too. :-D) I'm having a lot of fun with the place. Had some pause about having the story within the story be so long, but went with it anyway!

An eclipse of moths

I had to hunt around for this, not many of the lists included moths.

You've developed this quite a bit farther than what I saw at pico. I like the way we gradually become aware of the sentience of the castle: The mantelpiece groaned when I moved. The floor echoed with each of my steps. , and the way James identifies with it, from the stone in his pocket, to his fear of having too heavy a touch. I also like Q's identification with the water and the mist, the way the lake heats up much too quickly and forces them out. A warning?

Where its dungeons were carved from the rock, streaks of iron stain the cliffs. Nothing grows where the blocks for its walls were hewn from the plateau. Salt shines in the sharp cracks.

You use language so precisely in your descriptions, I can always see the images clearly. It's one of the pleasures of reading your stories! Have you had a chance to continue this one--I know you're working on another Sherlock story for August.

I have been working on the next bit, but in a way trying not to, because of the story with a deadline. It might be better just to jot down whatever rough ideas are in my head rather than trying to block them, but I'm not sure about that ( ... )

make me wonder if I've gone too far already.I think multi-part stories are always a tougher sell. And the thing is that people click on the story thinking they're getting Skyfall fanfic, but this is really an original story, you were just inspired by something about the actors' looks and presence, but you're not really writing fanfic. I don't know how willing the majority of fanfic readers are to follow the unexpected. I mean everything is labelled so readers can find exactly the pairing, the kink, the genre that they want. I know why it's done, but it discourages any sense of adventure in a reader, it's always easier to look for the comfortable ( ... )
