Arriving here freshly culture-shocked from netlagd's journal where I learned about the safety hazards of turkey deep fryers, I realized I want to ramble a bit about today ( Read more... )

random randomness, my life with sakesushimaki, things that make me look stupid

Like you I was stunned by the turkey deep fryer. Looked as scary as hell. But I imagine that turkey they cooked would be lovely and crispy. :)

Get someone to invite us both, I'll be the geeky Aussie exchange student. LOL!

Yeah, apparently, deep-frying becomes turkeys. Crazy contraptions, though. Leave it to the Americans to find deep-frying methods for everything, right? :D

Ha ha, I'll see what I can do. Maybe someone will have us. <3

Yeah, at least we got Christmas, right? :)
What was the Canadian Thanksgiving like? Similar dishes, I presume?

Yeah, totally similar. They do a lot of cornbread here as a side, no idea if that is traditional or not.

So, they had turkey and stuffing, vegetables, mashed potatoes, yams/sweet potatoes, corn bread, salad, bread, and of course gravy. Then pumpkin pie for dessert... yummy!!!!!

Nothing like a deep-fried turkey - the hot oil sears it so all the moisture stays in the turkey - it is WONDERFUL. But yes, dangerous. My brother always takes care of that part - I want nothing to do with a large vat of hot oil!

I can actually see how the taste would be great, it's just the theory that strikes me as kah-razy! :D

And yeah, playing with a giant pot of hot oil would definitely fall in the category of tempting fate. In my case, anyway.

<3!

I actually decided to try a pumpkin pie after all. Will go fetch the necessary ingredients tomorrow. And though my free-spirited mind usually revolts against cooking/baking with recipes, I shall do as advised. Yes.
Wish me luck!

P.S. You make pumpkin pie AND pumpkin cupcakes? Gawd, I might just have to marry you. Only two more reasons to add to the existing 58. :]

COME TO MY PLACE NEXT YEAR FOR THANKSGIVING. :X

It's literally just me and my mom every year. We still have a Thanksgiving feast that rivals other families. It's definitely a tradition for us because we eat the leftovers throughout the week in various forms but we spend the entire day eating. We just finished breakfast/lunch and then we're going to my cousin's in a few hours for dinner. The pumpkin pie I'm currently eating isn't homemade but really it's just as delicious. Okay, now that I've sufficiently made you hungry ... thank you for the Thanksgiving wish in your way. :)

Dude, be careful what you capslock.
Seriously, I have no tact, and this will only be another pro-point on my "visit the states" list. And we both know that your mom will love me.

Leftovers ftw! I've always taken to the method of eating what's left of a feast over the next days until it starts to disgust. That way, you're safe from cravings for at least half a year and you can look forward to the annual repetition! :D
