He lay on stomach, trying to get comfortable. The pain was unbearable at this point. He wanted to get up, run to the bathroom, but it was too much of a bother. He needed some relief and fast. He started breathing through his nose, deeply at first, but that just made the pain worse. Short, shallow breathes seemed to work. A sharp pain hit him and this time he rolled himself into a ball, clutching his knees to his chest tightly. ‘This can’t be happening’, he thought. ‘What did I do to deserve this?’
He had already thrown up twice that evening. He had trouble keeping down the broth that one of the monks had brought him earlier. The sharp pain hit him again and he groaned. He was trying to remember what Sanzo had said was wrong with him. Something about the food, it was bad or… Pain grabbed him again, shaking him from those thoughts. He thought he was dying; it was so intense. ‘Gods, someone help me’.
Sanzo walked into the room then. He looked down at his young charge, anger still evident on his face. He had been royally pissed off at the stunt Goku had pulled. ‘It served him right’, he thought. Goku looked up at him, eyes pleading for something, anything.
“Now do you know why I told you that you couldn’t have those meat buns? The owner said his son had already started baking them before he realized that the meat was bad. They only set them out to cool off before they threw them away. Next time, think about what I tell you and stop listening to your damn stomach.”
Goku flinched at the harshness in his guardian’s voice, but when he felt a hand on his forehead, he knew that he was forgiven. Sanzo sighed and sat on the bed, pulling his young charge closer to him, rubbing small circles on his back to help ease his discomfort. This was Goku’s first bout with food poisoning and, he hoped, prayed, his last.
