Ah, the change of the seasons~

May 24, 2013 01:58

So it seems that many of our animal friends here have started rather heavily shedding their winter coats in favor of their lighter summer ones. As a result, thanks to bad allergies, I've been sneezing constantly for the past few days. Of course, it doesn't help that I keep making things worse for myself by continuing to reach down and pet anything ( Read more... )

pets, allergies, change of seasons

Reptiles, spiders or insects might make better pets for you in that case.

Current examples of owners of reptiles and spiders have made me somewhat weary about the those ideas. As for insects, I'm not sure what would make for good pets in that category.

Cockroaches. The big ones.

You mean of the Madagascar hissing variety? I think those could potentially have the chance of being more difficult than either the snakes or spiders.

I feel your pain sensei, Mizuki-san and I are suffering from the pollen allergies and it's dreadful. I can't even go outside without a tissue box at hand.

And like Inui-san suggested, reptilian or amphibian pets might be more appropriate. Or even avian pets. I've heard some good things about tortoises, lizards and budgies.

I'm not sure if that makes things better or worse for you. As I'm the opposite, with it being dreadful inside, and I'm needing to take more breaks outside than usual to get away from the abundance of pet dander stuck inside and clogging the air system.
However, that said, if either of the two of you run out, you're welcome to have some of my tissues. I went and doubled up when I went shopping for them, so I should be good to go at least through the fall allergy season. I even added some stockpile for the school, whether or not Ryuuzaki-sensei thinks I'm going overboard.

I'm not sure about amphibians yet, but as I told Inui-kun, I'm somewhat leery when it comes to reptiles and spiders. And birds are notoriously noisy pets, so I worry about that. But if I can find a quiet bird that works, or an amphibian, reptile or even an insect with a decent lifespan, I'll consider things.

I think we're all worse off compared to everyone else, sensei. Let's not turn this into a 'Who is more ill contest'. (Those never turn out well for me)
Ahh, thank you, but Sanada-san was kind enough to provide me with a lot for now, but I'll be sure to ask if I do run out. I can't speak for Mizuki-san, though. Doesn't she always think that we're going overboard? How would tissues make a difference?

Ahh, well, I can understand the leeriness about spiders. They can be pretty scary. Ahh, yes, the noise. My mother owned a bird for a few weeks while looking after it for a friend, and it wouldn't shut up for more than five minutes at a time.
But some can be well trained to be quiet. Finches, Canaries and Cockatiels are all fairly quiet when it comes to noise-making. Insects....are kind of boring uhh....well. Some people find them scary.

True enough~ I'm glad you're well prepared, though. But I'll have to see if Mizuki-kun still needs some. He did seem to be far worse off than even myself when I last saw him.

I'll admit I do have a mild case of arachnophobia, so I'm not exactly the ideal owner for something like a tarantula or scorpion or, heaven forbid, a solifugid. I'll leave them to those who have more appreciation for them. But I have heard some cockatiels and parrots can be quiet, depending on the species. Particularly some breeds of lovebird, but you end up having to get more than one in their case since they'll easily get depressed if left alone. In the case of insects, they scare me less than arachnids, but aside from hissing cockroaches and mantises, I don't know too many insects that are kept as pets, and neither of those really interest me.

There's nothing for either of you to be sorry about. You can't help it. I've already told each of you as much.

Ryou has even been brushing Victor extra. That is one vain kitten, I must say. Nothing at all like the two of us. >.> But with the extra brushing between Ryou and I, our coats ears and tails have never looked sleeker or glossier!

And I really do appreciate it. Though that is part of why I'm saying you two shouldn't feel so concerned. I've dealt with this as long as I've been here, both when I was a student and now as a teacher in more recent years. I just occasionally make a fuss about it, I admit. I'm sorry if I've ended up troubling you both because of this. But out of curiosity, which subspecies were you two from again?

[OOC: Can't recall if you ever said which breed of tiger they were. But I wanna guess the boys have some Russian blood in them if they're shedding too?]

Aren't the health concerns a legitimate enough reason to ban domesticated animals from campus? Why does the school insist on tolerating them?

It's just allergies, Hiyoshi-kun, and not of the life-threatening variety. They'll likely calm down once their new coats come in. So there's no reason to go to ridiculous extremes like that. We're far more likely to have someone deathly allergic to some type of food, but so far we haven't tried to ban any foods either.
