Turns out is was the hard drive that died, not a virus, so the laptop has been sent off to HP for repair. Which, still in warranty, yay!! Saves me major dollars as cleaning off a virus at Best Buy costs $250. Ugh ( Read more... )

I have a little Asus netbook that I use to keep up with people online and write and I would reccommend it. There is an advantage to the bigger laptop if you want to be able to do things like watch movies - no DVD-ROM and the video card isn't very good. You can watch YouTube videos, but not much else.

I've started using Google calendar instead of Outlook. Of course, if Google fails... I just figure it's safer than my old laptop and my unreliable desktop. Plus, I love that I can access it on any computer.

I hope they can recover the data for you!
