He takes a seat on a Convenient Nexus Couch and sets his daughter down by his feet. He leans forward slightly and has a focused sort of expression ( Read more... )

"Everything happens for a reason. I think what you do with what happens remains your own choice."

He nods. "That is similar to how I was taught."

He smiles. "As for the other question... I believe some people have a deep set urge to self-destruct, to sow the seeds of their own downfall whenever they can. Even when it isn't a conscious desire, some part of them doesn't value their own life and sets out to put it at risk." He gives a little laugh. "Then again, I'm just guessing. I may be wrong!"

He narrows his eyes and seems to be considering some interior view. "That is an intriguing possibility."

"Fate is a crock, Grey. It's what people blame rather than taking responsibility for the mistakes they make. Everyone wants a scapegoat. They want someone else to point at when things go bad. Fate is just one of those things."

She sighs, shaking her head as she cradled a fussy Lillian closer to her side. "How do you mean create? Such as intentionally antagonizing people or merely refusing to suck up and kiss ass to make others like them?" Seems the baby isn't the only cranky one in the Frost household.

He half smiles. "I admire the strength of the outlook, but it can be hard to keep that in mind when I remember seeing the Norns.

I mean intentionally causing someone who could be a threat to hate you."

"Because it's better if they hate you than having them pretend to like you and being blindsided when they turn on you. Then there's always being tired of their shit and finally telling them to shove it, knowing they'll hate you afterwards."

Well, if there was someone he could go to for insight about amoral rulers it would probably be her...

"Would you craft an enemy the way others might craft a weapon or tool? Bending the iron here, flattening it there, to serve a purpose and play a part? Have you known those that would do that?"

"It is, t' nick a phrase, 'n outline've probabili'y." Says the comparatively small Jotun, cheeks bulging with the flesh of an apple. He chews on, regarding the once-bitten and half-gone fruit in his hand with a thoughtful expression, as though something significant is actually happening inside that strange head of his (which it isn't).

After swallowing the entire quantity in one go-a painful affair, judging from the squint-he quickly answers the rest while his mouth's on its way to another bite. "I dunno. Boredom?"
Crunch, and then a little reflexive lean as juice drips from his chin. It's not real eating unless it's messy.

"An outline of probability?"

He narrows his eyes. "It seems a strange way of keeping the mind occupied."

The apple is henceforth used as a gesturing device. And hey, he's even swallowing before he talks this time; no see-food for you. "mmyes. You know, a sort of... in all likelihood this is what will happen, but there's nothing that says you can't change the details. Thing. Even stone rules can be rewritten with the right tool."

He grins, teeth ready for another bite. "Some people are awfully strange."

"Re-written, or shattered with a big enough hammer.

Yes, some people are."

Aurora looks p from practicing her exercises.

"Some of both? I NEVER would have expected things to turn out the way they have, but they were set into motion from the moment I left the Commune. If I'd never left, then I wouldn't have gone to school. Not going to school meant I wouldn't have gone to that protest. Not going to that protest would mean I didn't get captured and changed. From there, it was luck I was found."

"From there, what was choice and what was fate kinda blurs. It might have been fate I got Donna's phone call. I suppose I could have refused to go help her, but Ijust knew I had to go. No other way to explain it."

He nods. "It is hard to know what is fate. Fate isn't something people were meant to perceive. Too much fore-knowledge drives even the gods a little mad."

He looks at her curiously. "How were you changed?"

With a sigh, and a moment to concentrate, she transformes into a form that resembles a 2-legged cat with large eagle's wings.

"THAT'S how I was changed. Not just this, either, but gills, talons, dog nose...and a tendency to freak out and go insane if I lose control. The more difficult the shift, though, the less control I have."

"I...tried to run and hide. I felt like a monster...like no one would ever care about me if they knew all of it."

"I think...when Donna's message came, I was just tired of running."

He looks fascinated. "You were made into a shapeshifter... It's hard to find people who trust a shapeshifter.

Running, yes, it isn't a good way to live your life."

I wouldn't be sure, but perhaps it's both at once.

Because they don't think it will be a problem.

"Both at once would make for an interesting situation."
