"I think it's some of each. We're fated to meet certain people, but what we do is up to us." Ali lowers herself to the floor in front of Grey and Iva, offering the baby girl her hand. "Lots of people create their own enemies, usually by accident. They're careless, or oblivious, or have the very best of intentions."
Iva crawls up to Ali with a big smile on her face.
"Yes. I have seen people make enemies through mistakes. Though usually not through good intentions. Perhaps good intentions are harder to come by in my old homeland."
She helps Iva up into her lap and holds her there, cradling her loosely enough for her to crawl back to daddy when she wishes.
"Perhaps they're called something else? I'm well. We're well. Things remain quiet, in no small part I'm sure because Sasha and Ian have decided I'm Not To Be Bothered."
"Don't like feelin' helpless. I'd rather think tha' whatever happens happens 'cause people interact a certain way."
"I gave myself a joke-fear. Th' fear of people who fear an' discriminate against a certain group of people. It was t' make a statement 'bout intolerance. Don't think that counts, though."
"Hm. I never felt like my fate made me helpless. I know how the story ends, but I don't know how I'm going to get there. It isn't really so much different for everyone else."
He grins. "Not quite what I was thinking of, but interesting. Where I come from 'intolerance' isn't named so succinctly, but it does exist."
"Fate is a bunch of crap. People make their own lives, and for each other. I've ... you make enemies if you live. Everything you take is preventing someone else from having that. It's inevitable."
Chrono shakes his head. "I don't believe in fate. There's always the potential for change based on your own decisions and actions. As for your second question...they do say the road to hell is paved with good intentions."
"It would be difficult." Chrono smiles faintly. "But it can be done. In my world there was a magical artifact with enough power to destroy worlds - one that has caused trouble and been impossible to contain for generations. We stopped it. It might take an exceptional person to change some things, but there's always a possibility."

Iva is content to cuddle with Ali for the moment. Her little nostrils flare as she sniffs at Ali delicately.
