Summary: Something made Legolas feel restless, and there were one thing he had to do before follow his father suggestion.
There seemed to be a few years that passed with some calmness, time for the land to recuperate from the damage caused by Smaug and the war between the Five Armies. There were some worries, but it was like it rather waited than continued to spread havoc.
Legolas did as his father suggested and journeyed the north to find the ranger Strider but, before he reached the destination, he changed his mind. Or rather he thought he could find this person later. He wanted instead to seek out another one that he actually had met and saved. The thought made him a little nervous, as he would probably not be very welcome among their kinsman.
It had been awkward and there had been some initial hostilities upon his arrival, but from the dwarf in question it hadn’t been anything like that, rather the opposite. They had gone out to the woods for a few nights to talk, reminisce, and do some hunting. That way, Legolas didn’t get the hostility from the dwarves and they could talk about anything they wanted.
It was a cold night, but that was expected when it was Ringare, or December in the common language. For once, it was also a clear night so they could see the stars. They sat together at the fire, after having a good day of hunting, sharing the meat. Legolas was still curious how it come that a dwarf was able to actually be quite quiet, or Kili was an exception. Matter what he was actually happy to learn to know him better. Kili seemed to thinking the same. There had been a few questions about Tauriel and Legolas had tried to answer them as well he could, knowing that she was the one element they had in common.
Kili had more than once thanked him, and he proudly bore the scar he got from the wound he had got trying to save her. Legolas didn’t want to make it any special. They had fought on the same side, and both had wanted Tauriel alive, but had failed in the end.
When conversation finally faded, they watched the sky, and when a star fell they probably had a similar wish. Optimistically it was that there would never be a war again, or about a love. Both turned to face the other and started saying; “May things change…” they stopped and started to laugh, heartily.
They would spend another few days together, before Legolas headed out on to his next adventure. But they parted as friends, and hoped to meet again.
