Hehehe yay!! Very nice. I love his hood and clothes. I have no dexterity with a needle, so I am in awe of your skills as a clothier of miniature people. How did you do the hair this time?
I got some swatches of fleecy material from the fabric store. And experimented. Actually I was stewing in frustration because the stuff I was using was too white, and then on an impulse dunked it into my glass of iced tea that was sitting there. It worked - dyed it slightly darker blonde, and as a bonus made it nice and messy.
I've borrowed a friend's sewing machine for the class I'm taking, which is the only reason I could even attempt a fully clothed soft-bodied figure. Don't be too impressed with the clothes - only the parts you can actually see look right. If you lift up his collar or open his jacket, it's just masses of threads going every which way without any structure. But it works.
I remain in awe, despite your attempts to discredit yourself. :)
Oh, I thought of one other thing about this -- as much as the artistic instinct runs counter to it, and as lovely as your celtic designs are, I would make Fflewddur's next harp unadorned. I remember being very touched by the scene in The High King where he's offered his pick of beautiful harps, and he looks at his own, dinged and battered, with a very graceful curve but not much else to speak of about it. And he chooses to keep it.
Speaking of, in my last read-through of The High King, it occurred to me that there were a LOT of illustratable scenes in it, more, perhaps, than the other books. It's always been my favorite of the five--I can't wait 'til you get around to illustrating it. :)
*grins sheepishly* Ah, Selie, my first champion. If I could bear to part with him, I'd sell him to you!
He is supposed to be gangly, but honestly his proportions are ludicrous. He has the longest arms you've ever seen. I don't quite have the armature thing down yet. Fortunately the costume mostly masks the issue! But he is very spiderlike. He also has no hips! It's been quite the learning process.
Well, my boyfriend is built very much like I would expect Fflewddur to be, though he's not quite awkward enough ... maybe my best friend's boyfriend is closer. They're both extraordinarily tall and skinny, though her bf has elongated monkey arms and huge hands, whereas mine is just tall and super super super skinny. So perhaps Fflewddur doesn't look misproportioned to me because I'm used to seeing that build every day ^_~ And yes, in fact, neither one of the boys have proper hips
( ... )
I've thought of sending it to Mr. Alexander, actually. I've always thought he patterned Fflewddur after himself. But if I did that, I'd definitely want to do a better one for him.
Ooooh! Achren! What fun it would be to do her costume. Ack! Quit giving me ideas! I am never going to get any actual WORK done!!! :P
And now I am burning with a desire to try making an AURYN necklace. Were you trying to get one like it's described in the book or like it looks in the film? Either way, that's pretty cool.
Oh. My. Goodness. I was expecting Taran, I really was. When I saw Fflewddur, I about died. He's fantastic! Absolutely fantastic! *applauds frantically*
