Trashy Amusement

I subscribe to Ideal Bite. It's a treehugger tip a day thing. I was amused this morning to find their topic was trashbags. What I didn't realize in my frugalness and laziness (faster to hang a bag on a nearby handle than to go find the garbage can) that If 10,000 people forgo a 200-pack of store-bought bin liners, in a year we'll avoid the ( Read more... )

I subscribe too, though it's incredibly rare for me to be caught up with them on a daily basis.

I found that the bags work really well for faux-painting. I think it was a rag-on technique I used. I love the final effect, and I sure used a lot of the darned things! Which yes, I think had to pitch because they're gloppy with paint. But at least it was a re-use, and I didn't buy into the 'you've got to buy special rags' crap.

yep, I just suck at finding creative reuses like that =) I LOVE hearing about them! Me? I blew the money on the "special thing" then I have tons of "special things" cluttering up my house waiting to find a use. Much better to use what you have when you need it than to buy and not have time to use it!

I've been thinking I want to buy a couple of those nylon bags that fold up real small to keep in my purse, because I frequently forget my canvas bags when I run in for just a couple things. But you've inspired me to just keep a couple of plastic grocery bags in there, stored in a ziploc or something. ;)

okay, you get frugal kudos for that idea! it's the most obvious and most likely least used reduce, reuse, recycle idea of all!

That and you don't have to splurge on nylon bags that would take up more room than the nice compactable grocery bags! I go put a couple in my purse now =)

I didn't even have to wait til I got home. I used one of the ziplocs from my lunch (one that wasnt covered in crumbs or peanut butter) and yoinked two plastic target bags from our immense stash here (that's another idea for recycling grocery bags, by the way...many libraries will take them to give to patrons to put their books in), and voila. I have two grocery sacks folded up tiny-like and sealed in a ziploc. I will use them til they just absolutely fall apart. Then grab two more. :)
