I think that because Christian Bale has signed off of the Batman franchise (and is most likely going to be replaced by Patrick Dempsey) that this had to be an ambitious project. Personally, I enjoyed it way more than the first film and the action scenes were utterly amazing and actually largely relevant to the main plot. For me, it didn't feel like a two and a half hour film and I thought it was surprisingly well-written for an action film, but I could just have ludicrously low expectations lol. I did want to see more Playboy!Wayne, but I understood why Nolan & Co. didn't overindulge with those scenes.
Yeah, I think I read that somewhere, but I could be mistaken, I'm not always 100 percent right lol. And yeah, totally, I can't imagine this franchise continuing with anyone else in the batsuit. I saw the trailer for the new Terminator movie, I'm not a fan of that series either, but if Bale's in it, it's a given I'll be seeing it. Also, his voice in the trailer sounds freakishly like a more mature version of Eddie Furlong's...it's a bit eerie.
Oh my god, THANK YOU. Everyone is all, "Best film ever!!" and I just...I loved the acting. The acting was phenomenal on all counts. And most of the dialogue was good, it was funny, it made certain points about the nature of man, it creeped me the fuck out. But it had, like, 3 climaxes! The classic movie structure is a classic for a reason: it works. I think the problem was, the story of two face should have been a whole other movie. Like, where he's lying in the hospital bed all bitter and enraged by the Joker, we end the movie.
Also, I disagree about the boats. I liked the idea of the experiment and what it brings out, but I felt like having the criminal throw the thing out the window was unexpected for unexpectedness's sake. Like, ok, but...what?! He's a murderer. Maybe he would have more qualms about killing that *many* people, but I don't think he would be all, "What are you crazy? Killing people like that?"
But, yes, the movie did entertain me and make me think. It just wasn't all it has been cracked up to be.
I would have loved if those democratic upstanding citizens had pushed the button. And I would have loved it if they would have blown themselves up when they did so.
This is exactly what I thought was going on. I was curled in my seat going, "Oh, shit. This is madness going down in here! That button will kill you! It will KILL YOU ALL!" and I was absolutely relieved when it didn't happen. I mean, there's dark and then there's ultra-dark.
And I also wish the Two-Face stuff had ended with the audience seeing Harvey all burned and left to wonder if he got out of the hospital or not. I'm sure we'll get more Two-Face in the future anyway, but that whole descent from injury/loss to madness is a compelling two-hour movie. I love the character, and I wish that his story had been saved.
Yeah, I think that was my biggest complaint about the movie was the handling of the transofrmation into Two-Face; I just wanted a hint of it, and then a notion that it would be continued in the next movie.
You actually wrote things similar to the The New Yorker, so good on you...
And it would have been a deliciously fucked-up thing for The Joker to do; give people a detonator, claim it's going to blow the other ship up, but really give them the one that blows up their own ship. (I realize that by positing this scenario, I am officially more of a douchebag than The Joker)
That's hilarious. Also, I totally would have thought of that too, so I guess we're both douchebags. I honestly think I would make a superior villain to any already created.
