That was really interesting especially the part about the 8 point stars. One the question of where that deep rich green comes from the only thing in the room that seems close would be the leaves of the plants but that seems a little bit odd given where Sam's head should be relative to them.
If the star wasn't so prominent in that promo-pic/in the house in 3x01, I wouldn't have necessarily noticed it. Now it troubles the heck out of me. :)
The only problem I have with the idea that the green is the plants is that those don't seem 'large' enough... but it's entirely possible there's some cinematographical trick that I have no knowledge about that results in said effect. *shrug* Oh well... *waits for people who know something about that stuff to make their appearance*
Gah, the hangers! The blanket! I noticed them but, y'know, never really thought about them... *feels stupid* *blames the slight cold she's caught* Good eyes and thinking! :) The two empty hangers, the lonely blanket... Everything about that shot just seems to reinforce how utterly alone Sam is...
But if the curtains are yellow eyes, and the YED we know about is dead, what does it mean? His influence seeks to fuck up the boys even from beyond the grave? Which is entirely possible, and would certainly fit in... Or does it mean there's another YED waiting in the wings to make their move? Or perhaps that there's someone who wants to be the YED in the YED's place? *ponders* The red lamps as eyes were noted in hugemind's recent meta about this very same episode, so I decided not to be redundant
( ... )
Bending the rules... what? You have a cap and meta that deals with what you can see in the cap. Those are the rules. And 'rules' is such a harsh word for something as enjoyable as this. ;) So, what I mean is, yay, meta! I think that the rules need to be rewritten so that they won't accidentally keep people from posting...
Sam leaning back, his hands in his lap, just staring at nothing, absorbing the information and locking it inside him... *shudders* Yes, that's one broken man right there.
I'd say that the green behind him comes from the flowers. There are so many angles cut together to make that research fu montage that it's almost head-spinning. Btw, did you notice the blue reflection in Sam's eyes coming from the computer screen? Creepy. *has no actual point*
I adore your observation about the twisted and fractured reflections. And I didn't even notice the stars! Damn, I really need to open my eyes... *checks the link for them* Venus the Morning Star, huh? LUCIFER!1?!1! I can't express how much I love the show right now! In
( ... )
Okay, let's say that they're my rules, then. Because trying to hold onto a single screencap prevents me from going all flaily over the whole damn episode I'm trying to meta, and still I threaten to go off-tangent... ;)
And everything in that chosen cap that further enforces just how...defeated, crushed under the weight of everything he can't bring himself to share with Dean Sam is. It breaks my heart every damn time. Grinds it into tinier and tinier pieces the more I think about it.
But the size of the green area does not seem to fit with the size of the plants. Is there some cinematographical trick that makes objects in the background appear larger than they are? *does not know anything about said subject*
If it makes you feel any better, I flailed an inordinate amount of time after spotting the stars. And realizing that at least all the larger ones are 8-pointed. And yeah... Morning Star. :) Thank You for that link, btw. I haven't actively kept an eye on the stars, so I'd have to watch the episodes again (one more reason to do so
( ... )
I'm not sure about cinematographic tricks per se, but the cap looks to have a shallow depth of field as even Sam's shoulder is blurry. I'd imagine that having the plants that much out of focus does indeed cause them to seem bigger. *knows no way to put this elegantly*
Dude, stars! Sorry, I'm still flailing here. ;) So, Buffy!demon follows soon after we've seen the stars... Is she also a symbol for Venus/Lucifer? Lucifer's beloved perhaps? And next my messed up theory fu will mix in Greece mythology. Oh crap, I'm so not going there.
It seems that I need to rewatch some eps, too. For spnematography meta purposes of course. *nods* There's just so many things to keep track of that somethings always goes unnoticed. Are other shows nearly as brilliant as Supernatural? I haven't paid that close attention to them but why do I feel like we have an additional layer of kewl stuff... :)
So, Dean's a princess/little girl and Sam's a dog? Hey, wait a minute, isn't that canon already! ;D
I'm not sure I'm still convinced about the green = plants. It could be like that, but... *ponders*
After Sin City, I ran across the idea that 'Ruby' is Lucifer a couple of times, at least. But since these stars have been in association with Sam... Why has no one over in sammessiah yet done this? Because that boy is prettier than he should have any right to be, on occasion. Granted, there's Dean, too, but... Sam has this beauty that makes me bemoan the fact that he wasn't cast as one of the elves when they were filming Lord of the Rings... Seems like Supernatural's sticking with some variation/amalgamation of the Christianity-like religions, save for some of the baddies. But there might be room for Greek ideas, and with the whole Lucifer - Morning Star - Venus... who knows? :)
That's the main reason I so love this show: no matter how many times you watch an episode, there always seems to be something new, something you missed before. Alas, I'm not a good person to ask about other series. Supernatural is the first show I'm watching with such

Within a year, this, Sam as the solitary inhabitant in another nameless motel room with just one bed, too deep in the hunt to think of a different life, is going to be reality. Are you trying to make me dissolve in a puddle of my own tears? How do you make me all angst-ridden with a META?! BTW, you know that angst is my favorite thing ... fic and now apparently meta, right
( ... )
See what I think all day long? Why I have hard time believing, at the moment, that S3 will have even half as optimistic Finale as S2? Your delight in angst has been noted, too, but I can't say it was intentional here. *hugs*
Between you, hugemind and delphinapterus, I'll admit defeat and accept the plants as the source of the green. They're the only plausible explanation, really.
That shot hit me, hard, and wouldn't let go. It's just so perfect. Mad kudos for the director of the episode for creating it, because you can look at it so many ways, you know.
So far the only 8-pointed things I've noticed during S3 have been the window in 3x01, the mirror-stars in 3x02 and the binding symbol (6th Pentacle of the Moon) in 3x03. :)
And that "Sam's fractured reflection in a mirror"-thing? Was used again in 3x04, at the end. That shot took me by surprise at first, but now... Sam's soul is just a tiny little bit more tarnished at that time... *sigh*
I have hard time believing, at the moment, that S3 will have even half as optimistic Finale as S2?
You and me both. Right now my bets are on "Dean dies". Of course, not forever. But his death fits the overall pattern, and it would be a fantastic catalyst for a bunch of other AWESOME events. You know the saying "up the stakes" in storytelling, well, this would certainly do it in more ways than one. Maybe later on in S3 I'll finally put together that three season story arc meta. *thinks*
That shot hit me, hardPoor Sam. Yeah, the defeated sort of helpless sigh he gives during that shot made my angst-o-meter jump off the charts
( ... )
That thinkiness is all thanks to the awesome fandom full of enablers. :) Sometimes it's just unbelievable how much can be found in these episodes, you know? And that's before we start wondering what's coincidence and what's by choice... ;)
I can't see an optimistic ending to S3. Not right now. So all the futures I 'see' are all tainted and bleak, without the addition of some artificial sweeteners...

That bleak future is one of the many bleak futures that worry me. Kripke is a bastard and I hope he never changes. ;-)
