Those Tiny Trifles: 2x01, In My Time of Dying

Sep 24, 2007 16:58

This episode hit me, hard, right where it hurt the most. And I was foolish enough to think Kripke and co. would fix the boys... Or that I'd get over it.
Not a picspam.

bowtrunckle: Tessa's shirt seems rather pink. Just thought to draw your attention to that, considering what it means, and how she's really just a figment of Dean's imagination.
What if red-yellow-blue combination's a sign of supernatural? You know, general "Here Be Dragons"? The 'cursed' house in Home (1x09), Meg, Sam...Oh, I love how your brain works! *jumps around* Considering the colors use in virtually all children's bedrooms--Sam's, Lucas's, Rosie's, and the kids from "Home" and "Something Wicked"--that fits nicely ( ... )

If the colour combination's always present in the kids' rooms... Tell me, how many of those kids have not been a target for something supernatural?

I'd say Cassie's shirt in that cap is this pale purple-grey (mauve?) shade that I couldn't really care less about.
But blue might be taken to mean 'player', don't you think? They are somehow tied in with whatever's going on: the more the merrier more significant role.
Remember John's practically all-blue gear when he dies. And Ava.

Do you guys like '70s metal as much as your characters?
Morgan: The '70s metal is more my deal, but I think they like more the dance mix and techno, especially Jared - he really likes his techno pop (laughs). Jensen is the one with the record collection - Yanni, Barry Manilow.

you know, that is straight out tragic and maybe true. John finally makes it to 'heaven'...and no Mary. Imagine the level of anger, betrayal, you name it he'd feel.

Nope, too cynical for even me. I am hoping after home, Mary poofed her way to a better place...and John clearly did the happy light thing that Father Gregory did in Houses of the Holy... and like Kripke said, "he's partying up in heaven these days".

I'd like to think that yeah, John's finally enjoying the presence of his wife again, but... *ponders*

A good deal of S2 was spent wondering about the afterlife, from IMToD's "And go where?" to Roadkill's (2x16) "We don't really know for sure" via Houses of the Holy's (2x13) "Men can't become angels."
Roadkill is, imo, a significant episode in the sense that for the first time, we were shown that not all ghosts need to be violently dispatched for them to leave this world completely. Or go up in flames.
I utterly forgot about Father Gregory. He gets the award for the first Bright Light Goodbye, instead of Molly McNamara. Here's to you, Greg. You were a bit curious in the head, but I'm sure you got to the Pearly Gates alright. And Molly was awesome.

But back to Mary and ghosts in general...
It may be that back in Home (1x09), TPTB hadn't yet thought about different ways for a ghost to go *poof* (excepting Woman In White and Bloody Mary). And thus there was fire ( ... )

Hee, you know what?... I re-watched the ep (yes, again!) on Saturday and kept thinking that 'man, I'm glad that I don't have to keep an eye out for the numbers because there's a lot of them' ;)

Instead, I went all cappity cap on (what I thought were) cinematographically interesting frames, and I fell in love with the camerawork in this ep. And I might even have to write something about this ep and its awesomeness (maybe at spnematography)... Yeah, just what I need, more stuff to write about... *le sigh*

And damn, but they should have dedicated more screen time for JDM's bare forearms and hands...

Smirking-and-gun-pointing!John FTW!

Ooh, I like how you talk about fics in plural. ;)

You know, watching IMToD made me cap a couple of scenes and go "Hmmm, there's meta here!"
So unless you beat me to it, I may even post something relevant to spnematography. :)

But this is a beautiful and awesome episode among many. All the instances of the camera circling around, reflections and repetitions... *smishes the show*

This is the episode that made me a John-fan utterly. And then he went and died. Of course.
I have a long career of falling for the characters bound to die. Should've learned my lesson by now. :p
And the commentary? Makes me so very conflicted. But methinks you'll enjoy it. :)

Oh, I've got fics. Lots of fics. Some nothing but a single scribbled sentence in the margin of my notebook, but, y'know... they're there.
Now, if I could actually finish something, that would be awesome.

Dude, I got tons of stuff that I should do, but for every to-do list item I cross off, another two appear. The brain works on over-drive, but just not on the things it should. :P My plot bunny list has about 25 items and like 5 of those are what I'd like to work on a bit, but alas! No time and two fics under the works already.

The camera work was something I noticed partly with earlier viewings, but until now, I hadn't realized that the elements were so often used and really contribute to the eerie feeling. So, what are these meta ideas you mentioned? Or would you rather not say? I totally understand if you don't, but I was just wondering, because the 'exit' sign haunts me now...

It may be you would've preferred the previous idea mentioned in the commentary, that the Winchesters were in a trauma ward in a hospital?
Though considering the show's track record with medical issues, that might have been a disaster... ;)

Thank You for your medical skills. Heavens know I can't tell these things... So now I've edited the post and it's (hopefully) right.

Mayhap the nurses with John knew he was a lost cause anyway, and were just putting up a show? Or maybe the doctor was? Don't forget the two BED!lackeys accompanying the YED and John in the basement. :)
And they simply trusted the boys to be a) kept out or b) to be in too much of a shock to notice?
(There's something disturbing about the way 'Dr. Kripke' looks like, but I can't put my finger on it...)*shrug* They're Winchesters: narrativium's their bitch. You really think something as pesky as a little car crash is going to leave a single mark ( ... )

Oh, that was just a bit of my mind wandering, trying to channel the YED... I mean, considering how 'old' he's apparently supposed to be, how likely would it be for him to remember every minor character's name correctly?
That sounds like a crack!fic... The reason for the YED to not use Dean's name being that he simply sucks, trying to connect the name and the face correctly... :p

Class was fun!

*hugs*
