This episode hit me, hard, right where it hurt the most. And I was foolish enough to think Kripke and co. would fix the boys... Or that I'd get over it.
Not a picspam.
( 2x01: In My Time Of Dying )
Hee, you know what?... I re-watched the ep (yes, again!) on Saturday and kept thinking that 'man, I'm glad that I don't have to keep an eye out for the numbers because there's a lot of them' ;)
Instead, I went all cappity cap on (what I thought were) cinematographically interesting frames, and I fell in love with the camerawork in this ep. And I might even have to write something about this ep and its awesomeness (maybe at spnematography)... Yeah, just what I need, more stuff to write about... *le sigh*
And damn, but they should have dedicated more screen time for JDM's bare forearms and hands...
You know, watching IMToD made me cap a couple of scenes and go "Hmmm, there's meta here!" So unless you beat me to it, I may even post something relevant to spnematography. :)
But this is a beautiful and awesome episode among many. All the instances of the camera circling around, reflections and repetitions... *smishes the show*
This is the episode that made me a John-fan utterly. And then he went and died. Of course. I have a long career of falling for the characters bound to die. Should've learned my lesson by now. :p And the commentary? Makes me so very conflicted. But methinks you'll enjoy it. :)
Oh, I've got fics. Lots of fics. Some nothing but a single scribbled sentence in the margin of my notebook, but, y'know... they're there. Now, if I could actually finish something, that would be awesome.
Dude, I got tons of stuff that I should do, but for every to-do list item I cross off, another two appear. The brain works on over-drive, but just not on the things it should. :P My plot bunny list has about 25 items and like 5 of those are what I'd like to work on a bit, but alas! No time and two fics under the works already.
The camera work was something I noticed partly with earlier viewings, but until now, I hadn't realized that the elements were so often used and really contribute to the eerie feeling. So, what are these meta ideas you mentioned? Or would you rather not say? I totally understand if you don't, but I was just wondering, because the 'exit' sign haunts me now...
I've long since stopped counting all the ideas...and will just write whatever happens to come out. :)
The camera-circling they did in abundance should not be watched while suffering of slight vertigo. It makes it worse. Ow. But it's such a wonderful directorial device that I adore it very, very much...
The meta-ideas? Mostly I'm just enchanted by Dean and his reflection while he's bargaining with Tessa. Then there's the whole damn thing about names and numbers in general...I'm pretty damn sure I had some other ideas, too, but they've all fled my mind now. :)
Not really counting ideas either, but I may have a tendency to make lists. And I already have two fics in the works, so the ideas will just have to collect dust a while longer.
Camera-circling, refocusing, camera angles... Lots of nice stuff that makes me want to re-watch all episodes that Kim Manners has directed. And we get a new ep next week!!!11! :)
Whoa, I'd be drawing a complete blank on those meta topics. Now the reflection I can handle as yay, pretty but my meta of the scene would probably be along the lines of Dean reflects. Yay, a pun! ;)
I honestly freaked today when I realized that it's barely a week 'till a new ep. *facepalm* Good work, Supernatural. You've trained me well. *toasts*
This episode, I believe, is definitely one of the most remarkable episodes from S2: no other episode has reverberated so utterly through others, imo. And the camera-work simply takes the hurt to a new level.
If it makes you feel any better, my only reaction at the moment to the cap of Dean with his reflection is, indeed, Prettyyy!!! So I'll just head to bed now. :)

Smirking-and-gun-pointing!John FTW!
Ooh, I like how you talk about fics in plural. ;)
