I have had a dream, past the wit of man to say what dream it was

I AM RETURNED.

Ok, technically, I've been back since Tuesday evening, but as I was back at work Wednesday morning while fighting off jetlag and trying desperately to catch up on sleep, I've been a little lax in reconnecting with normal life.

The short recap of my trip: Seven glorious plays in five days and lots of rain but also lots of fun with arcadiaegoRead more... )

fangirls have more fun, globe, richard iii, london, timon of athens, globe squee, theatre, winter's tale, boys in skirts ftw, henry v, friends

It really doesn't rain this much in England usually, I promise. :-P

'Close your eyes and picture your perfect sandwich!!'

Lol, did I actually say that?! That's unusually helpful for me.

I'm glad your toe didn't fall off or anything - having experienced toenail woes myself I feel your pain!

and partly because they had a live recording of Mark Rylance in 'Jerusalem' doing the amazing invocation/curse

Oh god, the ending?!

I AM SEEING RICHARD III TOMORROW AND I HAVE ALREADY BEEN WIPED OUT BY THE TWIN FANDOM TRAUMAS OF BATMAN AND TOM'S HENRY V TODAY AND I MAY DIE BECAUSE MARK BACK AT THE GLOBE.

You TOTALLY said that about the sandwich and it cracked me up. :) It's probably why I forgave you for not alerting me the INSTANT Jamie walked in the room. ;)

YESSS THE ENDING OF 'JERUSALEM' IT WAS SO GOOD TO HEAR IT AGAIN.

PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF SO THAT YOU WILL LIVE THROUGH TOMORROW!!!!

Lol, I genuinely am sorry about that, I really wasn't sure it was him. :D

Oh god. I don't know if I would dare listen to that in a public place.

ARG.

Hee! Oh, don't worry about it- it worked out swimmingly!

I think I dreamed that they decided to film 'Jerusalem' live for BBC4 or something. IT WAS A GOOD DREAM.

(also, I was trying to avoid all tweets this afternoon about Hollow Crown-ness but I saw you laughing about the line in this icon and OMG ME TOO I WILL NEVER NOT GIGGLE)

I have wanted to see Mark use his powers for evil for YEARS and I am glad he's as good as I thought he would be. I devoutly hope they'll do cinema broadcasts and/or DVDs of this season because I MUST SEE THESE THINGS. IT MUST HAPPEN.

OMG, he totally plays with the sweet/bumbling thing he does so well except he uses it FOR EVIL. There was a point during IV.2 where I actually MADE A NOISE OF HORROR, it was DELICIOUS. I have to imagine that they'll record it- it's such a HUGE draw and for heaven's sake, THEY DID MERRY WIVES THEY MUST SURELY DO RICHARD III, RIGHT??

Lol, when this was first announced I was thinking, hmm, I wonder what evil!Mark will be like...and then I thought, well, the scariest thing would be to do exactly the same thing as normal only, you know, be evil while doing it.

("caricature of myself" comment in 3...2...1...)

I am ridiculously happy that Jamie high-fived you! Hooray! And, oh, I saw your tweet about Sam (and his reply), and yeah, I hope everybody understands how good he is! I confess that I am a *tiny* bit more excited about his playing Sebastian in TN, but that is probably largely because I have INTENSE and irrational Sebastian feelings, so his casting is perfect. :) Anyway, so pleased and absurdly proud to hear that he was great.

I am also jealous (well, not really) that you got to go to a Read Not Dead event! I've always wanted to go to one, but don't know if I'll ever manage it. :( I wish there were some way to get the academic geekery without, well, the rest of academia...

Anyway, I hope your toe is getting better!

I am actively trying NOT to pine away for Twelfth Night- I want to see it SO BADLY and I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO SO, so I have to pretend it's not happening. :D GOD I bet Sam will be good as Sebastian. SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM.

Read Not Dead was SUPER FUN! I know the Shakespeare Theatre here in DC does something on a much smaller scale- a few readings of mostly forgotten plays a season- but I've never been able to go, which is ridiculous! I was really impressed with how put together it was, considering the actors only met together 4 hours before the reading started. I also really enjoyed the structure of the surrounding events- 1.5 hours to introduce you to the play via the lecture, 1.5 hours break, then the performance. It's a lovely way to spend an afternoon!

I wish there were some way to get the academic geekery without, well, the rest of academia...
Right?? Getting to engage with likeminded friends on LJ helps, but it's just not the same!

I am pinning my hopes on the possibility that they'll film it, because otherwise I would spend all of my time stomping around and kicking things. Which would be bad.

Oh, it's good to hear that they don't just plunk the audience into the Read Not Dead play cold. I've only ever been to one reading of an early modern play, with scholars, but I have to imagine that it would be a lot better with trained actors. :) Still, it was good fun.

I don't mind all of academia, obviously; I love going to talks and to SAA. And that's the stuff I'd be missing if I decided to teach high school instead: having a group of like minded colleagues instead of spending all one's time with beginners in the subject (which brings its own pleasures). Still, the stress and pressure to publish are not exactly selling points.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I am SO JEALOUS! I feel starved, starved, starved for theatre, and all those productions, I wanted to see them and just didn't dare booking bcs I didn't know where I'd be this summer, and so, like the chicken I am, I went with abstinence, even though I know that makes me sad.

All of the above sounds wonderful! Of course, I squee'd a lot at and partly because they had a live recording of Mark Rylance in 'Jerusalem' doing the amazing invocation/curse in at the end of Act II., because JERUSALEM!

Some days ago, a friend texted me live from Richard III and oh, my heart, it aches! But I'm so glad to get all the commentary here at least. Also, I am at least partly playing along by watching and rewatching The Hollow Crown, which at least provides me with some Shakespeare, if not live and with the crowd experience.

Oh, what a brilliant theatre trip! That's the way to do it, really.

Also, your toe - better now, I hope?

My toe no longer bleeds copiously! :) It still makes me slightly nervous, but there's not much I can do with it except preserve it from further harm. BOO.

I still haven't watched ANY of the Hollow Crown! I was saving it up for after I watched the Globe Henry V, since I'd been following Jamie's Hal and wanted to finish up that journey first. I need to make the time and watch it all now in a glorious marathon of joy and Shakespeare!

Well hate to burst bubbles but Tom Hiddleston adorable as he is, comes nowhere near either Jamie or Dugald! Bad cutting decisions, tiny and rubbish armies and you will be throwing things at the screen saying "WTF" over and again by the end of Henry V on tv.
However! Went to last London perfs of Winter's tale and Henry V by Propeller yesterday - Funniest Bohemia in the world, esp the Tony, Gunnar and Richard version of Whither oh whither and in Henry V, poor Vince Leigh was off so joy of joys my latest lovely unrequited crush, Nick Asbury was Pistol and as he mentioned, this was 5th time of him playing the old reprobate

BOO indeed! I hope it heals quickly.

I am, in fact, rewatching The Hollow Crown, because OH MY. Someone is really unforgettable. Shakespeare marathons are always full of glorious joy! Also, may I just say, and you will probably say it with me once you've seen it, SAUNA.
