Have finally caught up on livejournal (took all morning!), was some 300+ entries. Some I could skip, some I could skim, and the rest I just had to read. Sadly, no time to comment. Still trying to catch up on home life. Wireless experiment at my mother's was a failure. Will try with a less powerful wifi in March ( Read more... )

Babe, I'm so sorry you are going through such a heavy, difficult time. I know you are one of those front-line fighters who likes to take the enemy out with the first assault, but this is a long battle, and those are the ones that can grind you down. Hang in there. {{{hugs}}}

Thank you for the hugs! For now, I am doing pre-emptive strikes on the house, be getting rid of boxes and clutter and opening it up a bit. I've been wanting to do it for ages, but alas, with working part-time and just keeping up with regular housework and trying to spin more yarn for the upcoming craft show season, The Purge just wasn't happening. My current unemployment (leave of absence) will hurt us financially, but do a world of good for my mental well-being ( ... )

The majority of this madness should be done in time for the spring gardening. I will have my garden to love me. I let it go fallow last year, so I have a LOT of tilling and weeding to be done, and plants to be moved. Much aggravation will be dealt with by lots and lots of shoveling. Am nipping other problems in the bud by taking care of it now.

The worst part will be not having immediate transportation while I am there. Will have to call neighbors to run errands for mom, but we are hoping to get a nurse in a couple times a week to help with bathing and lifting. They will be cracking her chest open to replace the valve, and she will be limited as to what she can to with her arms, so she won't be able to help me, lift her in and out of the bath.

Other than that, she's in very good health, aside from her weight, so the surgeon is very optimistic about the whole thing.

I got her a second-hand Nook so she has something to read for the week she will be in the hospital. I just need to go through her list and start putting them in the Nook. After then get converted into Nook-speak. I am buying them off of Amazon. :P

what kind of books does she like? I have a shitload of books that came with my e reader, I could zip them and send them to you if there are some she likes. I also have access to a couple book sharing sites (I mostly replace the books I have in paper form, but if your mom like Tom clancy or danielle steele or some of those mega authors I don't have a lot of remorse filching a few books on her behalf.)

She's reading a bit of everything. Romances, Vampire series, The Dark Hunter series, mysteries, Supernatural romances and mysteries, wartime stories... like I said, a bit of everything. She also has read the Harry Potter series! :D The Nook is pretty much empty at this point, so I will fill it with as much as I can before the 1st of March, just to giver her a variety.
