Wow -- what a day - some relief, too!

Went to the doc today, and started with "You're gonna be mad..." And he said, "Why?" And I said, "TennCare" -- and he said, "Ah...." It was much better from then out... :-)

Ooops! Sarah's conselor asked her the other day if she thought she might have ADD... So Sarah and I got to talking about it, and looked up symptoms of girls and women on the lovely internet. We were shocked to see that BOTH of us have the symptoms... Depression, signs of bi-polar disorder, "piles of stuff everywhere," chronic problems starting things and not finishing them, little or no problems with hyperactivity or social behavior, internalizing and personalizing NOT finishing things or pursuing goals as character flawa and failure, being too sensitive about other's opinions, OCD, getting good grades to make up for failures in other areas in grade school -- and then failing in late high school or early college as stress increases, not being able to keep a job for long periods of time as an adult, etc. Sound familiar? We were both shocked. And I went with her to talk to her counselor about getting her tested and I've now made an appointment for myself, too! They also said it was genetic, and the fact that Brian showed signs ( ... )

Genetic ADD and bi-polar/chronic depressions issues---well, I know at least two of the source lines--me, Roberta (from her father and grandfather MacLaren, by guess from known anecdotal history about him). Likewise OCD. Same folks, also both my parents, the Mogensen grandparents, my mother's maternal grandmother....etc. ad nauseum.

I get Bi-polar treatment from Neurontin/Gabapentin, doing double duty as an anticonvulsant for my Temporal Lobe disorder and Bi-polar depression.

For the chronic depression, I'm now on Effexor, which messes up my pain controls (as I have osteopenia--a sibling disorder to osteoporosis--plus osteoarthritis with major problems in hips, knees, neck, jaw, spine in general (agony! after standing for extended periods). Acetominiphen just doesn't quite cut it, but that's the only OTC I can use. I'm allergic (really!) to Ibuprofen, warned not to use any NSAIDS partly due to risk of allergic reactions, more because of chances of burning holes in my rearranged GI architecture ( ... )

Yup, me, too. Also on Medicare D as of Jan 1 -- and mad about benzodiazepenes. (I'm on Xanax and Ambien). Take depakote for bi-polar disorder and concurrent migraines -- but am off it right now because of the TennCare limit. Hopefully will be back on once Medicare D sets in. I don't have any trouble hitting the $3,000 mark -- so I haven't run into many of those issues. Still don't know how much my copays will be, though -- but since I also qualify for permanent Medicaid (because of the SSI) -- I should have fairly low ones. I take generic Prosac for the depression and OCD -- though am also off of it at this time for the same reasons. Not as effective as the "real" thing, so am having to take higher doses, but I know it does something, because I'm sure feeling the lack ( ... )
