LJ, FB and Twitter.

Sep 01, 2010 23:06

I doubt that anyone I know would intentionally post anything from my LJ to FB, but I am beyond anxious about this latest development.  It doesn't matter whether it is flocked or not, or gen or het or whatever.  Anything I write on LJ, comments, fic or personal rants are meant to stay in LJ. I don't want anything cross posted anywhere. At all.  I ( Read more... )

There's a way to block it in your LJ with a CSS script thing. (Yes, the technical terms, I can haz them!)

I'll try to dig up a link for you.

Good. I am the least technical savvy person around but I think I may have to give it a shot.

Okay:

To get rid of the twitter/facebook repost links in your journal entry comments do the following:

1. Go to your "Journal" menu, and select "Journal Style"
2. To the right, you'll see what theme you're using, with a link stating "Customize Your Theme". Click that link.
3. Scroll down a little ways, and you'll see that on the left side of your screen, you have multiple options to modify your theme. Click on the "Custom CSS" link, and it should load the options for doing Custom CSS.
4. From here, all you have to do is go to the "Custom Stylesheet", and put in the line

.b-repost-item {display:none}

Once that's in there, save the changes. The End

Do you mean you did not read the wonderous update that LJ has given us or you don't know why they were so stupid to do it? (this is in no way a mean comment to you, it is all about LJ and why I feel like storming their offices)

I skimmed it, but I never post anything on LJ but comments, so I figured it didn't affect me. Hmm.

It does affect you. Your comments...even comments to a flocked story can get cross posted. I don't know all of it but what if you just happened to write a comment regarding a m/m pairing - or maybe a personal rant about Aunt Matilda. Your comments can be linked to an FB and then back to LJ. Maybe the person who wrote the m/m pairing would not want it even known she writes erotica. Or whatever. It doesn't matter, many people do not want their LJ persona to be ever linked with RL FB.

Someone from livejournal commented, and it sounds like something is going to be done.

I feel exactly the same as you, by the way. Keeping separate things separate is a very, very big deal to me.

Did you notice the Facebook Twitter icons under your comment box? Well, LJ has made it easy for us to "link" our comments and journal posts to FB and Twitter. It can be accidentally clicked and voila...suddenly your facebook has been crossed posted with the recent slash fic you may have written! Fun huh? And comments too. And FLOCKED POSTS.

I don't want my 79 year old mother reading about this stuff - nor about personal rants that I may have made toward my cousin or sister or whatever...see what I mean?

Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?

'Scuse the french.

I haven't linked my facebook and twitter to my livejournal. My parents, siblings, finacee and so on are on there and I don't want them to know about this. But I do have some of my facebook friends on there as well and yeah... this is not good.

Freaking lj morons.

I did NOT know that f-locked entries could be archived elsewhere. That's a huge, huge, HUGE violation to me as I have worked VERY hard to keep things private or intentionally separated from anything that could track back to, well, ME. My facebook is locked, I don't show email anywhere, but my private LJ is the biggest problem as it and my email are closely related. You're in nursing school, you know the kind of shit that could spin out from random crap. I mean, yeah, it's kind of paranoid, I suppose, but God damn. Look at how vehemently I post in my personal LJ and look at the shit I write for FUN in my public one - can you even imagine having that conversation? I'd die. Especially because, Jesus, my private LJ is locked FOR A REASON and my public LJ is not linked to me FOR A REASON.

Yes, yes and yes again! Like I said, I am sick to my stomach. And really? I mean how in the fuck can they do this shit? LJ is a refuge, a place to have fun, to relax, to play. It is not RL and I want to keep it that way. It is not even about adult content (although that is HUGE) I mean, I don't want kids playing around on FB to be able to link to the adult concepts often discussed in LJ but it is even more that this is my place and especially flocked entries...LJ has always assured us they would remain flocked.

I am just sick.
