I got a $25 itunes card as a gift.  I thought it would be fun to get a few aps for my iphone.  Got a cool one for the kid to play with.  Got a nursing ap which is pretty nifty.  Picked up the KD Lang version of Hallelujah from the Winter Olympics.  She does a remarkable job but I love Jason Manns version more. I picked up a new Steve Carlson CD ( Read more... )

stupid people, rl, rant

Bummer, dude.

I suppose you can take comfort in the fact that you didn't really pay for it. *shrugs* Still, money wasted sucks.

I loved KD Lang's version. I've never heard Jason's. T'is good?

Jason is wonderful. I love his version. He changes a part that says

"I'm not sure there is God above" to "I know there is a God above." And that little difference is important to me.

Also, he uses different verses and those verses are especially sexy for me. There is a lot of symbolism in the song but a lot of people think that Hallelujah is about sex/orgasm believe it or not. Whether that is true, I am not sure but one of the verses that he uses is:

"There was a time when you let me know what was really going on below but now you never show it to me do ya?"

"Remember I moved in you and the holy dove was moving too and and every breath we drew was Hallelujah."

If this song is really about sex and orgasm and that is what Hallelujah is that is a pretty powerful image.

In any case, I love that visual. *sigh*

It always comes back to sex with me huh? *giggles*

I never heard sex/orgasm thing. It definitely gives you a new perspective on the song. Hee.

I loved Justin Timberlake's version too. No matter which version or meaning you prefer, it's a very powerful song.

When you have time...take a look at the words. Of course there is a lot of biblical references too but it is an interesting take on it.

You are right. It doesn't matter what the ultimate meaning of the song is and maybe the only one who really knows is Leonard Cohen?

Still it is gorgeous. I would love to hear the JT version.

I've got that cd, too. Got it and one of the "real" Steve Carlson's cd's from CDBaby right after I heard him play. Kept thinking wow...this is really different from the rest of his music :) LOL!! A friend laughed at me for a long time about that. You're not alone!

I wonder how many CDs got credited to the "other" Steve Carlson?

Does he think he has a following or something?

That is mean.

He is probably a wonderful man but two seconds into the first song I went WTF?

Ack! I have been known to do stuff like that.

Apparently a whole bunch of people have recorded Hallelujah? I have the Justin Timberlake version from the Haiti telethon. It's a very affecting song.

Hallelujah has been covered by a zillion folks. It is such a powerful song. Moving, spiritual and yes...if you read my comment to Kim, it is supposed to be about sex.

I should probably research Leonard Cohen. He is the man who wrote it and maybe I could find out a little more about it.

No matter. I think it is beautiful. I would love to hear the JT version. I have a little crush on that guy!

I *love* the JT version. When I heard it on the telethon I thought, "I need to find that." It's on iTunes, under "Hope for Haiti."

I kind of had the feeling it was about sex. :)

I can't be sure that is the case, it is a matter of perspective. I youtubed the JT version. It is very nice. I like it just a little faster I think and I would have loved more verses because Justin has such a beautiful voice.

Oooh, that's disappointing. It'd be one thing if it happened and you were so blown away with the awesome that you didn't care, but it sounds like you're sort of 'meh' about the whole thing. :( Darn those iTunes previews. I think they should be longer!

D'oh. I forgot that I meant to say that I have a few different versions of 'Hallelujah' including k.d. Lang (the Hymns from the 49th Parallel version, vs new, live Olympic rendition), but I don't have Jason Manns. I shall have to try to find that!

KD Lang was incredible at the Olympics. I had the TV running at night and woke sometime in the wee hours of the morning to hear that lovely voice singing one of my favorite songs. I did not have my glasses on and could not see who it was and was too tired to reach for them but I listened and was amazed at what a gorgeous job she did on it.
