So we have a new family member. Meet Gracie! She was originally rescued from NC but wound up in MD. She is an 11 month old collie lab mix. Although she is just a little taller than Rory she is twice the weight. Thank you chunky lab genes!
She does not have her shots yet & needs to be spayed and microchipped. She is also in season. Yuck! So she is ( Read more... )

Congratulations on your new family member. She's so pretty!

And I love the girls playing photo. Let's hope that her in heat personality as it relates to Rory carries forward. It looks promising so far ;).

Good for you for adopting! I keep wondering what my next "dog for me" will be. I bounce between different breeds and then think I should rescue and then back again. Since Tumble's going to be 10 this year, I'm thinking/hoping it'll be 4 years or more before I decide though. I think it's awesome that you've adopted.

Have I told you my dad's Sheltie has been living with us since November? She'll be 9 this month so I think she'll be ours for the rest of her life. Initially I'd considered finding her a forever home once my dad either passed away or forgot about her but, though both in decline, his mind and body are still hanging in there. It's been about 3 visits since he's asked about her but he did mention her yesterday so she's still in his thoughts. As long as she is, she's his as far as I'm ( ... )

Ah, pack dynamics with a new dog. Tough. Plus, my shelties (who I loved desperately) were sometimes not the most social dogs. They were kind of reserved with other dogs, not all that playful even with each other. And quick to show their anger at one another over possible threats (MY KIBBLE MINE!) Like they hadn't been fed twice a day for 15 years! But like you said, when a fight broke out, no one got hurt! They just got a lot of fur!

Still those Jack Russels? They don't believe they are "little" dogs and won't back down. Poor little Kismet. *kisses her*

In terms of a new dog? I've decided I'll probably never get a registered dog. I love them, but there are so many incredible "mutts" who need a home and Rory and now Gracie have proven to me that sometimes they make the best pets!

Good luck with every thing!
