Help! To all of my peeps - non horsey and horsey

Nov 10, 2012 12:49

So - most of you know my background - how I love horses but was horrifically injured about 12 years ago.  There is no need to get into it but suffice it to say, by the grace of God and some miracle workers at ShockTrauma, I am here today. Tomorrow - for the first time since I was hurt, I'm going riding.  It is my kid's wish to have a birthday ride ( Read more... )

Oh honey!!!!

I have never been a horsey person - they just are too big for me, and I have a lifelong fear of falling. But I have stroked a nose or two. And I know how much this means to you.

Let your love of those big wonderful critters guide you, not your fear. That same (as Sam Beckett of QL would say) "God/Fate/Time/Whoever" who helped you survive your injuries will be right there beside you, as will all your friends and flisties. Be gentle with yourself; if for some reason you're unable to do it, all it will mean is that "The time hasn't come just yet." NOT failure.

Just take it one step at a time.

*sends you massive Sammy hugs*

And BTW: JDub is standing there going, "YOU CAN DO THIS, SOLDIER!" He's got a stiff drink waiting for you afterwards. *g*

Thanks...I'm scared and worried but oddly enough I do feel like this is the right time. I also think that it is important for me to do it with my girls there. They will be both my encouragement and my strength. Plus, I really don't want to fail in front of them either. Which is some extra incentive!

Thinking of JDub soldiering me on sounds just lovely.

You will be okay. I ride a lot but am a bit of a nervous rider, and my trainer is always telling me to "fake it until you make it." I've found if I force myself to repeat the actions that bother me I do eventually relax.

"Fake it until you make it." Not a bad way to go. I will remember that tomorrow.
