Helo and Sharon through 2.07...

Aug 29, 2005 10:40

I apologize for the length of this post - it kinda got away from me and I don’t think I’m done with it, even now, since my thoughts on these characters are constantly evolving. In fact, I express myself a helluva lot better in writing fic as to how I truly see them, but I just had to get this off my chest. I’d love for you guys to post your ( Read more... )

*is heading to bed otherwise could comment*

*half-sniffles* That was beautiful, sbabe. And I have hope for them.

I fear that Sharon will be harder to write now Home has screened. It's all about not making her too sympathetic to the humans... and finding her right speech patterns. Then again, I do most things to put off writing ;). Just a doubt nagging inside my writer's brain.

She certainly is showing herself to be more complex...

Now I have to try to delve through all the H/B stuff on your LJ. It's gonna take a while. *snerk*

I loved your post too and will leave it to more articulate posters to discuss.

I love Helo and Sharon but I don't think I want to post anymore since it seems a bit sensitive right now. I'll just be supporting lurkily in the wings. *Helo and Sharon 4eva* :)

Hon, from what I've seen you're plenty articulate and I'd like to hear what you have to say. Please don't lurk. :(

That was probably me. *sad* Please just ignore me for the next couple weeks, Koala. You are always articulate and inciteful, and I think you add a lot to the discussion.

Hi That was an excellent analysis, and truly insightful. I am always hopeful that in the end Helo and Sharon will be together and happy, (One of the main reasons I watch the show ( ... )

Right there with you on the nature vs. nurture thing. That being said, what will happen to that poor baby if she is born and ends up being raised by the crazy man Baltar?

Hi! Here through bsg_creative.

I love your analysis. The question I have is, does Sharon know the baby she's carrying is not hers and Helo's but in fact Baltar's and Six's? This Boomer is more self-aware than the other, and she knows her mission but has so far chosen to reject it. However, I have a hard time believing that she doesn't have an endgame and isn't just trying to befriend the humans so they keep her alive long enough to bear the child, that that was her true mission after all. Call me a cynic, but I can't help it. It's in my nature to distrust, haha. But then that doesn't take into account the fact that she outright rejected the Cylons' plan for her and Helo to stay on Caprica and live in a cabin in the woods, because she loved Helo. Perhaps when that Boomer left Helo and Kara she was eliminated and replaced by a more obedient model? But if her mission as a Cylon was just to bear the child, she could have stayed on Caprica without Helo to do that, once the child was conceived ( ... )

Oh, cool! A new face and a new idea to ponder!

It honestly never occurred to me that Sharon could have been replaced by another Sharon. I'll have to explore that possibility.

That being said, I don't think she has been replaced. I really don't see much point in having Sharon give birth to a baby that was actually a result of Six and Baltar. Why not have a Six model carry it? Why go through the elaborate steps they took to have Helo get Sharon pregnant only to have her be a surrogate for another human/Cylon couple?

I think the Sharon we're seeing is the same one we've seen on Caprica all along. She may very well have her own agenda, but I think that if she does, it's all about Helo and her and their baby, not about the humans and the Cylons.

Definitely some more stuff to chew on from your post, though, and thank you so much for visiting and sharing it with me. :D

Haha! Thanks for welcoming me even though I seem to be playing devil's advocate here...;)

I keep coming back to the idea of Sharon being replaced because, if she's outright insubordinate and refused to adhere to the central intelligence of the Cylons, whatever that is, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't replace her, since they obviously have the power. They can't afford to have one of their own running around sympathetic to The Enemy; I'd think their first order of business would be to Get The Traitor, preferably without the humans finding out. Of course, she could very well have avoided them since she's a smart one, at least until killing them all and stealing the Raider, but--here's a thought--what if they gave it to her, the new replacement, on purpose and she was lying about the heroic liberation? 'Course, I can't remember if any human witness was with her at the time, so that could shoot a hole in my theory.

Why go through the elaborate steps they took to have Helo get Sharon pregnant only to have her be a surrogate ( ... )

I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't replace her, since they obviously have the power.

But Sharon would also know this and act accordingly. And I think it would be easier for her to avoid capture by the others than it would be for them to take her, given that she is smart and determined to not be caught.

A theory I've heard that I really like (I believe it began with queenofthorns) is that when Helo gave up his seat in the mini for Baltar, he really frakked up the Cylons' plans for Baltar to stay on Caprica and mate with a Cylon, so they brought in Boomer to do it with Helo instead. But it always comes back to Six and Baltar for some reason, they're the chosen couple or whatever, so Helo became the unwitting father of Baltar's baby as well.

I like that. I also like that the two men are so very different from each other, almost diametrically opposed in attitude. That kind of irony appeals to me. :P

Six is not talking literally about "their" baby and if there is any parentship, it's symbolic.

That's how I see it. :)

Lengthy anecdote analogy post - kinda off-topic raincitygirl August 29 2005, 20:34:05 UTC
I'm just riffing here, not picking up on any one particular point Sorry, kinda woozy here). In terms of what Sharon is, with the way she's hanging onto her own theological beliefs and clearly sees them as the only correct ones, but is nevertheless helping the humans, I am reminded of a story my godmother told me ( ... )

Now, obviously the situations are far from exactly analogous (that's what happens when you use true stories. You can't fit them to your theory, damnit). For one thing, the Nazis were Girl and her foster family's mutual enemy. A closer analogy might be a Wehrmacht soldier or a Nazi official sheltering Jews or helping them escape. But then, it wouldn't be as close an analogy in other ways, because presumably a soldier or civil servant who'd do that (and a few did) would be disenchanted with Nazi ideology. And the Third Reich was built upon hatred of the Jews, it's a cornerstone of their ideology. And yes, I'm comparing Nazism to a religion, because for many people it was, just as the Cult of Stalin was quasi-religious. So the soldier or official would have to disbelieve in a central plank of their 'religion' to do that, and Cap-Boomer still believes in her religion(she rationalizes the Farms, and nobody's asked her yet whether she approves of nuking 12 planets, but I'd be interested to hear the answer. Mind you, I don't think she's ( ... )
