I apologize for the length of this post - it kinda got away from me and I don’t think I’m done with it, even now, since my thoughts on these characters are constantly evolving. In terms of what Sharon is, with the way she's hanging onto her own theological beliefs and clearly sees them as the only correct ones, but is nevertheless helping the humans, I am reminded of a story my godmother told me ( ... )

Now, obviously the situations are far from exactly analogous (that's what happens when you use true stories. You can't fit them to your theory, damnit). For one thing, the Nazis were Girl and her foster family's mutual enemy. A closer analogy might be a Wehrmacht soldier or a Nazi official sheltering Jews or helping them escape. But then, it wouldn't be as close an analogy in other ways, because presumably a soldier or civil servant who'd do that (and a few did) would be disenchanted with Nazi ideology. And the Third Reich was built upon hatred of the Jews, it's a cornerstone of their ideology. And yes, I'm comparing Nazism to a religion, because for many people it was, just as the Cult of Stalin was quasi-religious. So the soldier or official would have to disbelieve in a central plank of their 'religion' to do that, and Cap-Boomer still believes in her religion(she rationalizes the Farms, and nobody's asked her yet whether she approves of nuking 12 planets, but I'd be interested to hear the answer. Mind you, I don't think she's ( ... )
