“I can’t believe you’re all grown up.” Karl shook his head in mock disbelief, mostly teasing his daughter, yet there was an underlying grain of truth. It was a gift from the Lords of Kobol (and maybe Sharon’s Cylon god, too) that she was alive at all, let alone here with him now, an adult in her own right.

Hera shrugged and quirked one fine brow at him. “Had to happen sometime, I guess.” One of the lace straps of her wedding dress slipped down her shoulder and came to rest halfway to her elbow. She pulled it back up absently, smiling at Karl.

Gods, it seems like it was only a few weeks ago that we got you back from that baseship, he thought. But here she was, still his little girl, yet nearly tall enough to look him in the eye, her riot of dark curls tamed, at least for this one evening, into a shining cascade down her back. Her dark eyes (Sharon’s eyes) were the same now as they’d been twenty years ago, though - oh, so serious, but capable of morphing into mischief in half a second flat.

The music on the other side of the heavy wood door swelled, grew louder as that door opened and Sam Anders stuck his head through the opening. “It’s time,” he said with a smile at Hera and a nod at Karl.

Hera swallowed audibly as Sam backed out, leaving the door open for the Agathons. Karl grinned at his daughter and held out his arm; the heavy sash of his dress uniform pulled at his neck and his grin turned to a grimace. Of course Hera noticed and laughed at the face he made. There was no need for her to know that his dress grays weren’t nearly as uncomfortable as he made it seem; it was enough that she had relaxed that little bit.

As she took his arm and he lead her through the door into the cathedral, the rays of the setting sun cast a rainbow of brilliant color across their path. He looked up and met his soon-to-be son-in-law’s steady gaze and a thought lodged itself in Karl’s brain.

She was mine before she ever met you...

As always, feedback is appreciated. :)
