Shrinking the Header/Footer?

How to you reduce the width of the Header/Link lines (the journal title and the recent entries line) and the Footer line (the one with the date) to fit the page better?

At the moment mine go all the way across and I want them to match up with the center areas margins?

this will help with the header -- not sure how to do the footer.

copy the code into custom css. :]

forgot i was logged in under my old LJ name. use it for test journals now when i'm making a layout. this is ME. ;]
