(SOLVED) space under userpics & large subject area

Hi! I have two issues that are really bugging me. The first is that there's a bit of a gap directly under the userpic in an entry. The second is that, when there is no subject provided, the background area for the subject is stretched out. I am using a free / plus account (I'll be using plus when I test out comment pages) and the live preview is at

Both of the codes you provided worked! Thanks so much for your help! You seem to know just the right fixes, so I was wondering if you could help me with just one more issue.

In my comments section, there's about 1px above and below the comment link where it isn't flush with the bottom of the entry and the top border. I'm assuming it has to do with the height of the link? I'm not sure, though.
