JESUS CHRIST. This is what I mean about my classmates, poeple-- this one seriously wants to be a YA librarian:

EXAMPLE 1:
Wow-- I never really considered that iPods could be used educationally, or knew that there are educational podcasts out there. (I guess I have a lot more to learn about new technology!) I think it's a great idea. Students will ( Read more... )

omg, school

How can you want to be a YA librarian and be so unconnected with media?

There were at least two people talking about how they've never had iPods and wouldn't want one and those kids, they isolate themselves with their headphones, and listen to that horrible hip-hop and listen to music while they study, it's just like in Feed, etc etc SHOOT ME.

Because libraries mean books, right? Calm, cold, unfrightening books. BOOKS. What is this new media of which you speak?

Well, to be fair, I refuse to buy a cellphone. But you'll pry my iPod away from my COLD DEAD HANDS.

Seriously? Seriously?!

These people want to be YA librarians?

*headdesk* They are going to be the ones who talk in the staffroom about how they don't understand why the teens avoid them. We had one at our library... 'Awkward' was the first words out of my friend's mouth after we escaped a conversation with them where the librarian babbled on about blogs and girls bullying other girls after she noticed that my friend had picked up 'Gossip Girl'. We didn't come to the library to be lectured, we got enough of that from parents/teachers-- sometimes we just wanted a spot to pick up the newest catty teenchick lit. :P

Woe. I don't want to be that type of librarian either. (But I like talking to teens when I get a chance to work with them. I ask a lot of questions mostly, though.)

Naw, I liked talking to the cool librarians (the head children's librarian introduced me to Tamora Pierce when I was younger, and I always talked to her about books and authors I was reading. (o.O. excuse my grammar)

I was a geek, I practically lived in the library during middle school (knew all the librarians by name).

But I have a feeling that you have a good pulse on the 'real-world' media and technology and teen attitude and teens won't be cringing and avoiding you. Questions are good, as long as they aren't condescending ones. :)

YES!...Sorry but your rants make me feel so very glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way about LS. ::Big Hug::

The fact that I'm starting school on Friday has left me feeling miserable this whole week. -_- UGH.

Only this Friday? Bastard, I think this is the end of our first month. >.<

Yeah, I could rant about the Children's Lit classmates who don't understand what I mean when I say that easy readers are useful but not necessary and think all children start reading between 6 and 8.

I'll probably rant about the Management class, but the BBS over there is relatively well-behaved. I just have the physical class tomorrow...

Hmm. Example 1 makes me wince, but Example 2 actually makes sense to me; I think the statement "the benefits of new internet media usually outweigh the downfalls, as long as its users are educated" is absolutely correct, particularly with the qualification.

But, well, I am indeed a horrifying luddite.

Example 2 would have made sense except for the bit about the dystopian sci-fi novel in the middle. Honestly, I don't think social networking sites are anything like having a feed jacked directly into your brain talking at you so fast you can barely read or write. It made me boggle a bit.
