It's finally back. Nephew talked to a Real Live Person an hour ago and he said this particular problem is normally resolved in 3-6 hours. Which explains why we were without service for eleven hours. ;)

ROFL. Well, it should be, at least. Good thing I've got BlackBerry, but poor Nephew was up until 1AM working on his taxes and still didn't finish them. (And yes, if his middle name wasn't Procrastination, this wouldn't have been an issue. I was too compassionate to point that out, though. *g*)
