LJ Idol: Morgenmuffel

The end of winter is a sad time for me. I love the cold, the frost in the morning, the promise of a snowy day. But the Earth turns, the seasons change, and winter warms into spring. I always see the first really warm day of the year as a personal insult, especially when the winter was as short as this year's was. We had a 70-degree day at Christmas ( Read more... )

I love your very original line: "Dirt is seasonal coffee." What a great metaphor and so true!

Does Irish Storyteller tell stories often? Are they about Ireland or are those just two separate facts about him?

What is the name of the app? It sounds super useful. Does it id based on leaves too or only by flower?

I tried to start an herb garden in pots but have lost my cilantro and my rosemary. I must have a black thumb :(

There's nothing like cooking with just picked herbs!

Your entry definitely gets me in the mood for spring. Great idea for the prompt! I enjoyed reading this.

Irish Storyteller is from an Irish-American family that has stayed true to their roots. By that I mean they can talk for days without taking a breath. He has many stories but none about Ireland...yet.

The app is Picture This. You have to pay for it but it's totally worth it.

All my herbs lived last year except for the dill. Stupid chipmunk pulled it up and ate it the day after I planted it. I'll get him yet.

What on earth is this magical plant identifying app??? And surely...there's a bit of micro fiction there about modern witches and such! I loved this entry. I, too, am such a fall/winter person and I've been trying to embrace ALL the seasons. It's hard not to fall a bit in love with spring, because it's such a glorious rebirth, but one has to be READY to fall in love, eh? We didn't get enough winter here, either. Boo.

I need more cold than we've been getting. Looks like it will be coming back this weekend. See? Fool's Spring!

You make it sound so beautiful (and of course, it is) when winter fades into spring and all of the plants are blooming. This is my favorite time of year, botanically, as it means that the groundcover will finally start making its way again over my yard and my magnolias will bloom and all sort of good things that I just love to look at. But seasonal allergies make it so I generally enjoy from a distance and make my husband do all of the yard work! Luckily he enjoys that sort of thing. :)

Thank you for reminding me, I need to use my neti pot after standing in the smoke all day yesterday.

There was a time when I avidly grew my own vegetables in my garden. These days the only things I grow are the things that can survive without my doing anything for them (and I was pleasantly surprised when I got mandarins this past winter).

I think I downloaded a plant identifying app on my phone, but I never got around to trying it out. Your ability to identify flowers with yours makes me want to try it out though.

My dad always planted a huge garden when I was growing up. We didn't have to buy produce over the summer. I miss that, but it took a lot of work. And land. Lots of land.

Dirt don’t hurt! 😆
I have some chives and oregano that made it. I think one snapdragon plant lived. I’m so ready for spring. Over the weekend I did the yard clean up. The dirt actually felt good.

My oregano didn't survive the transplant last spring. :( I'll have to add that to my Garden Festival Herb Buyin' List.
