i was reading ms. magazine yesterday at work, and there was an interview with the woman who wrote this book about communication between mothers and daughters. i probably should read that. in that article, the author was talking about how women and mothers are put on these unrealistic pedestals and met with all these unrealistic expectations, and ( Read more... )

i can relate a lot to what you are saying... my relationship with my mom is very similiar. the weird difference is that i put my mom on that pedastool, and idealized her, but she was the one who physically abused me, while i hated my dad growing up. and he pretty much did nothing except sit there and let it happen, but he never really beat me up or anything. im still closer to my mom, but i havent seen my family in a few years, and we speak only sporadically via phone. its weird how those relationships evolve isnt it? its strange that a child would grow up feeling closer to the parent who abused them. im not sure if THAT is the case with you or not, but it is with me...
anyhow, i do relate that weird relationship dynamic that comes from being in a family where any sort of abuse is occuring..

interesting... my case is kinda different... my father abused me and i have nothing to do with him. my mother turned a blind eye to a lot, and still does.
and relating is good.

I got that book for my mom on mother's day, and she told me it's an amazing book. I'm glad it could help you out. I have a great relationship with my mom, but it's still really interesting to analyze mother-daughter relationships. I think this sociology class has really got me interested in this kinda stuff. Ok, no more rambling.
