I was a bit concerned about how this chapter would be received because nothing really happens. But I thought that it was important to try to understand the reasons behind Ryan's behaviour. He knows that he's seriously attracted to Summer but he also knows that giving in to the attraction will cause even more problems with the Cohen's and he's not prepared to risk that. They mean too much too him. The poor boy is being torn in all directions.
