I know a couple of people on my flist will be as thrilled by this as I am, but I think most people would find it cute and interesting:

Rock music + birds + science = glee )

music, birds, language, video

That State of the Birds video is stunning - thank you. (I passed it on to my biodiversity prof and my zoo docents list, too.)

Oh, I'm so glad you liked it! I'd been hanging on to that link for awhile, but I really loved it too.

Yup, I will always agree that parrots are even more incredible than most people realize, and it's nice to see the serious science types getting more involved. Also, scientific advancement because of YouTube! I do wish we could have seen more of "Another One Bites the Dust".

Actually, this makes me want to learn a little bit more about music appreciation and language capability. I think I've heard references to it before but I don't really know anything about it.

ETA: oh, that owl preening his foot is the most adorable thing!

Yes! The dancing bird himself is wonderful, but I especially love that he inspired some neuroscience research and language development theory. Of course in a couple of my master's classes on language acquisition, we talked about the evolution of language ability, but not nearly enough for my taste. I'd like to know more as well.

"As for why he feels compelled to groove to it..."

Well, duh! It is Queen, after all. Who wouldn't want to groove to Queen?! ;)

One of my friends' father used to tell her that the reason the pidgeons and other birds would walk around bobbing their heads is because they had songs stuck in their heads. Hehe.
