Roadtrip pics, part 2

For the second part of our trip, we toodled over to Kansas. The landscape in rural western Kansas was unfamiliar to me and very pretty. (My dad grew up farther south in western Kansas, where it's flatter. Still pretty but in a different way.) This part of the trip included the Eisenhower museum in Abilene, then the Great Plains Nature Center in ( Read more... )

Aw, my dad's greyhound loves his toy gorilla, too!

How interesting that it's the same toy! Greyhounds are so neat. :)

Goslings! Their feet are so cute!

And the Greyhound with his gorilla is gorgeous.

The Flint Hills remind me of places over here, not what I would expect to say of Kansas!

It was not the stereotypical flat plains waving with wheat, I agree! If I change my geographical orientation when I look at that photo, I think I can see what you mean about it looking like places in Britain. I have a feeling, though, that come summer, those hills in Kansas will be more brown (though not like California) and less like over there.

Look Ray, turtles!

That greeter dog photo really does remind me of one of those English paintings done by Gainsborough or Stubbs.

I'm sorry about your camera, but it does seem to still be doing a pretty good job.

Hee, silly Fraser. :)

Yes, those are the kind of paintings I was thinking of! Or something like this by Jacques Laurent Agasse.

I was surprised at how much I was able to work around the crack in the camera lens cover. In certain light it barely showed up, which, if you'd seen the crack, you'd be amazed! And now the lens cover is off, so I can take normal pictures again, I just have to be more careful with the lens.

What a lovely trip. You're right, that low-light greyhound photo does look like an oil painting. Quite stunning, if you ask me.

Love the turtle series, especially the final one with just the bubbles. The nature museum looks like it was full of facinating displays.

That really is a horrible Jackie-O doll. Poor Jackie, the most stylish First Lady until Michelle Obama and she gets stuck with the ugly doll.

Thanks for a peek into Kansas!

That greyhound shot was mostly luck! When she posed, I didn't have time to change the shutter speed or anything, I just focused and clicked. I certainly wouldn't have chosen to make it so dark, but in that case it turned out kind of neat. Thank you!

The nature museum was neat, I think you would have liked it too. (I would protect you from the geese!) :)

Hee, I know! Of all the dolls to fail with, it's too bad it was Jackie-on-a-Pedestal.

Sorry about your camera!

Yipes on the braided straw shoes. Although they are pretty neat

The geese were so cute! And there were so *many*. What a family that pair has to keep up with!

Those braided straw boots made me eep a bit, too. I'm assuming (...hoping) they were made to fit over normal boots to increase their cold-fighting properties, but I don't know. You use what you've got, I guess, and the braided straw was kind of ingenious.
