Randomness and zoo pics

* This is very silly, but... I won the weekly screencap caption contest on a Primeval comm! And it made me a little gleeful, which surprised me, but was fun. I don't mean it's silly to be happy that I wrote a popular caption, I mean - well, you have to look at the cap and the caption themselves. One of my stated fannish goals for this year (hmm, I ( Read more... )

I kind of love that there are some cats hanging out there

Me too! They seem to live in the area used for hay and grain storage, so I'm sure they're useful for keeping the rodent population down. Working cats. :)

I hadn't thought of that, but I bet they are very helpful and good at their jobs when it comes to that.

Seeing the zoo cats reminded me of something I thought you might like:

The House of Lords debates whether or not to get a cat

Also, I'm kind of in love with the black and white elephant picture - it's really beautiful and poignant. Please could I be cheeky and ask if I could have a copy? Apart from that, I think the otter is my favourite. He looks really engrossed in what he's doing :)

Sure! Take what you like. :) The large version of the elephant is here http://www.flickr.com/photos/21226246@N02/4407338279/sizes/o/ He looked so sad and patient out there, matted from the rain and drying in the sun.

I love that debate, thank you for the link. *g* I looked around for several minutes to see if it was a parody. It looks real, even though there is a person called "Lord Brabazon of Tara"! Hee. I've been reading too much McSweeney's.

Hee. I've only submitted an entry to the caption contest twice, and both times it was because the caption came into my head immediately. *g*

I'm glad you enjoy my zoospam. :) Oh! There was also this

I love your caption! Primeval is so silly, but I kind of love it. And your pictures are, as always, fab. That bear shot really is hysterical.

Primeval is great because it doesn't have to be taken too seriously, but it's got enough action and pretty people and weird plot devices and plot holes to sustain a decent fandom. AND DINOSAURS. *g*

That bear! He was totally mugging for the cameras. I think he felt good because of the sunshine.

Hey, congrats on the win!

I seem to have the opposite problem in that my attentions are so scattershot that I can't bring much focus to any one show.

This is a really lovely set of photos. Do you know what's wrong with the pelican?

The zoo cats are awesome.

Apparently male pelicans get growths ("nuptial tubercles") on their beaks during mating season. In the pictures I've seen, though, these bumps usually look more regular. And this pelican has had something on his beak for as long as I've known him, during every season, though it does seem to change in size. I wonder if the fact that he never has anyone to mate with affects it? I really don't know. Maybe I can ask sometime, if I can find a zookeeper. I hardly ever see staff around in that part of the zoo. Maybe the lorrikeet guy would be able to tell me ( ... )
