* This is very silly, but... I won the weekly screencap caption contest on a Primeval comm! And it made me a little gleeful, which surprised me, but was fun. I don't mean it's silly to be happy that I wrote a popular caption, I mean - well, you have to look at
the cap and the caption themselves. One of my stated fannish goals for this year (hmm, I meant to post those...) is to try to get involved in a non-Whoniverse fandom, to try to increase my scope, which from the time I got obsessed with Torchwood has been very narrowly focused. For me to even start writing Doctor Who fics was a big step. Creatively, it's hard to get my head around more than one subject at a time, and by "at a time" I may mean "per decade." Further decades will tell.
So. One silly caption and fic at a time. :)
* Since I recently watched the Vancouver Olympics closing ceremonies and I don't think I shared this two years ago, here's a quote from comedian Arthur Smith about the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. After the eight minute segment in which London introduced themselves for the 2012 Olympics, he was asked what he would do to showcase Britain in eight minutes. "I'd have a march by reality TV stars and people with ASBOs, and a lot more old people grumbling. I was pleased that the bus [in the actual promo] came very very slowly and didn't seem to allow anyone on it. And I would have a huge upper lip descending from the stage, with a massive umbrella." * I made it to the zoo last Saturday, and it was a gorgeous day. The animals seemed to be enjoying it.
So surprised!
Unsurprisingly, this pigeon was totally dominating those ducks.
Pelican feathers in front of the waterfall
And some flamingo feathers
This otter was chewing on a piece of wood.
I can't get over how ugly/cute the bush dogs' faces are.
African crowned crane dance
Zoo cats
The light was bright and harsh, which made all the photography a challenge, but it was just right for illuminating the elephants' hair. And this one's a redhead!
More stuffed animals in unexpected places, this time in
this storage area
Gibbon glance
I swear this bear was acting like he was lounging on a piano in a sexy photo shoot. Fortunately here he's covering his ::cough:: porn star feature.
First time I've seen the maned wolves. They were both out sunning.
