Um, would anyone happen to know where I might find high-quality Methos-centric Highlander fanfiction? I've never read Highlander fic before. Any rating, any pairing, any topic is fine, as long as it's got Methos and is written well. (From what I've seen so far, writing a complicated morally ambiguous 5,000 year old immortal well is quite a ( Read more... )

Most of the links I have are ancient or I could be nice and call them 'classics'. I'd say start with Killa's site and work through there. oh! and the futures without end series of zines all of them now on-line. There is a real sort of division in fanfic between the methos-who-is-really-adam-pierson, the methos-who-makes-bad-choices, the methos-who-was-never-redeemed, the methos-the-eternal-victim and the methos-who-is-older-than-dirt-and-wiser-than-dumbledore. There's a lot of variation in how he's characterized, so it's hard to give good recs.

Interesting. I'm looking forward to discovering some of the intricacies of Highlander fandom. Thanks for the info--I'm going into this pretty blindly so I appreciate the help. :)

Hi there,

I started off reading from Killa's link page:

http://seacouver.slashcity.net/killa/linkpage.html

And you should also look at the ROG-L Recommended Reading page, being Methos centric and all. The stories were recommended by the members of the ROG-L list, so keep that in mind. Some recs will be fantabulous, some not so much.

enjoy!

I second the rec for Killa's site. Besides her own (excellent) fiction, she has pages of Highlander links, slash recs and gen recs.

I absolutely must recommend Sandra McDonald's "Methos in WWII" series; it's what got me hooked on Highlander. There are three stories: The Wars We Choose To Fight, The Battles We Lose and
The Victories We Claim.

Teresa Coffman wrote a wonderful follow-up to The Victories We Claim. You can find her Highlander stories here.

So, anyone going to see Common Rotation at the Bitter End this weekend?

Was going to go with my sister and her boyfriend, but they can no longer go due to unforeseen circumstances. After seeing CoRo headline at the Point in Philly, I really wanted to go too. Oh well. Guess I'll just catch them next time around. Have a good time if you do go!!

Oh, dear. This makes me remember how much I loved Highlander back in the day. A time before I even knew what fanfic was. I remember taping every episode and watching them when I came home from work as I exercised. It certainly got my heart rate up! (There's nothing like a guy with a long sword--unless it's two guys . . .)

I want to run read these, but I don't have enough time for all the stuff I want to do already.

Hee. Highlander was how I discovered fanfic, actually. I was vaguely aware of its existence somewhere in the back of my mind, but I found my first actual fic while searching for Highlander stuff online (on one of my first experiences using the internet). I stumbed across some NC-17 Duncan/Methos slash and fled in terror--didn't read fic again until Spike, and only after quite a bit of coaxing. (In my defense, I was like 15, and very naive. I love slash now.)

I wish I could have stumbled across it earlier, but I was left wondering if I was the only woman in the world who thought that the idea of two guys together was hot. And I still have to see a relationship as being in character before I can buy into slash. Fortunately, there are a lot of good writers out there who can make that happen for me.

And--that seems a normal and healthy reaction for 15. Sexuality is both wonderful and scary and kids need time to come to terms with it.
